How Mattis' Plan For Fixing The U.S. Military Would Transform The Army
FORBES ^

Posted on 02/05/2017 2:17:15 AM PST by elhombrelibre

Secretary of Defense James Mattis has issued his initial campaign plan for rebuilding America's military, pursuant to a presidential directive signed January 27. If Congress provides necessary funding, the Mattis plan would reverse a steady erosion of the joint force's warfighting edge that resulted from caps on military spending during the Obama years. In fact, the plan may usher in a surge of spending on new military technology unlike anything seen since the Reagan years.

All four of the military services General Mattis oversees would get a boost, but the biggest beneficiary during President Trump's tenure will be the service that is currently in the direst straits -- the Army. That's because the fixes the Army needs can be implemented more quickly than expanding the Navy's fleet or fielding a new Air Force bomber. In fact, making the Army healthy again could be largely accomplished during Trump's first term -- which is a good thing since it is pivotal to deterring East-West war in Europe.

Mattis is bad news for those yearning for the restoration of the Russian/Soviet Empire under president for life Putin. But it is good news for those wanting freedom to be the guiding goal of the world.

I read it from top to bottom. The author clearly believes in the attempted reconstitution of the USSR by Putin. I haven't heard that much talk about the potential European battlefield since the 80s. I was surprised the cost wouldn't be to bad for just some basic upgrade for the Army.

I’m all for beefing up the Army, but as for Putin, “trust but verify” might be a good place to start.

Heck, if Putin wants to be the international cop in the Middle East, let him spend the blood and treasure. What good has it done us?

The Moslems are savages and will always be committing acts of violence, among themselves if there are no Christians and Jews to pick on.

If Putin wants to build an empire on that basis, let him.

"...the attempted reconstitution of the USSR by Putin."

I believe the vast majority of our heavy armor was removed from Europe (at great cost) during the last eight years.
They were forward deployed for a good reason.

Just remove the “pink” army and morale will be restored. Also remove the women from combat. It will just become a liability because of the guardian / protector trait in men if they get hurt on the battlefield or lag behind. It will get more soldiers killed trying to save them. Put them in planning and organization type roles; maybe as officers because most are good in those roles. It will save lives as well.

What is Mattis’s plan for dealing with the rape of males in the military?

He’s been in for two weeks, how about giving him some time.

I’m pretty sure most of it was gone by 2008.

If you mean homos, yes!

The main source of blood in forward deployed combat is the force. The last thing we need is for our combat wounded to get aids in the name of diversity!

Secretary Mattis is absolutely on target: the army needs to be fixed first. The US army is the premiere warfighting arm of the United States and the backbone of NATO and SEATO. The focus under Obama has been barely coping with the brushfire war in Afghanistan and some weird gay and lady-centric policies, while shredding the budget.

To deal with the growing threats of Russia, China, and Iran we need a very muscular and technologically-advanced army, fast.

It's funny to me that it took a career Marine like Jim Mattis to figure this out and then get it done! I'll bet the army leadership was really sweating it when all these Marines started getting top-level jobs with the Trump administration. They needn't have worried.

Remove all queer nation crap too! Military has one purpose that is to destroy the enemy and kill the enemy not to see if we can have social engineering to destroy our military!!!

All the US Army's tanks were out of Europe in 2013. A year later we were sending them back. Initially, it was called Reassurance. Now, it's called Deterrence. As long as Putin doesn't get crazy and attack NATO, things will be fine, like during the Cold War. Obama created a void that Putin took advantage of and his propagandist bamboozled a lot of people, who should support freedom. If Trump behaves like Reagan, we'll be fine. If he follows the appeasement policies of Hillary and Obama, there will be trouble.

Do you believe this is the major problem facing the US military? If so, what evidence to you have and how many military people currently serving do you know?

Guys like Mattis are purple by the time they reach his level. They see what everyone can bring to the fight. The parochialism fades away. The USMC and the US Army will work together for the land piece in Europe to deter and to defeat any aggression should Putin be foolish enough to launch a war.
