How Mattis' Plan For Fixing The U.S. Military Would Transform The Army
Forbes ^ | February 3, 2017 | By Loren Thompson

Secretary of Defense James Mattis has issued his initial campaign plan for rebuilding America's military, pursuant to a presidential directive signed January 27. If Congress provides necessary funding, the Mattis plan would reverse a steady erosion of the joint force's warfighting edge that resulted from caps on military spending during the Obama years. In fact, the plan may usher in a surge of spending on new military technology unlike anything seen since the Reagan years.

All four of the military services General Mattis oversees would get a boost, but the biggest beneficiary during President Trump's tenure will be the service that is currently in the direst straits -- the Army. That's because the fixes the Army needs can be implemented more quickly than expanding the Navy's fleet or fielding a new Air Force bomber. In fact, making the Army healthy again could be largely accomplished during Trump's first term -- which is a good thing since it is pivotal to deterring East-West war in Europe. . .

At 32, I recommend a cold shower.

Starting from scratch in the military needs to begin at about 18, not 32.

Obama had enlistment standards impossibly high.”””

News to me-—every time there was a thread about the military under Obama, there was more & more involvement including women in submarines—in open combat—and the very worst of all:

Letting both sexes join the US military with criminal records—even felonies. Everything Obama touched in 8 years was a detriment to the USA.

I don’t mind women in the military, but I don’t want them in submarines-—too delicate a place for those close quarters for women, and with the kinds of enemies we are dealing with today, I don’t want a woman soldier in the hands of ISIS or other Muslim renegades.

However, IF you can get past boot camp & you have serious technical skills, you might find yourself a great fit for the military.

Obama purged so many life-long professionals in the USA military, we have a great shortage of experience & knowledge.

Find out what they can tell you.

Don’t sell yourself short-—doesn’t cost you anything to inquire-—just some time & maybe some gas.

Chaplains or doctors... maybe some very much needed specialities at your age.

Why not bring back DADT? There is no reason to serve “openly gay” unless it is to recruit. Nobody had to serve “openly heterosexual.”

Just passing on what I’ve heard here but if the recruiter says you can keep your sideburns, it’s a trap!

They need the outright ban again; there is no reason servicemen (especially medics) should be exposed to blood the bearer wouldn’t even be allowed to donate.

I suppose an army equipped to fight a hypothetical war with Russia would be able to take on our more probable adversaries.

I commend you for your thoughts of enlisting. I’ve been there-done-that myself. Keep in mind you will be competing with kids almost half your age with a much different view of our culture than you might have.

The combat arms can be quite physically demanding.

Where I’m going with this, is go into an MOS (job) where your age is more apt to be respected, say maybe an MP, CID investigator or one of the many military intelligence jobs.

Being an officer is a great idea, but keep in mind if you go that route you will be in competition smart a$$ butter bars. Instead, find a job as a warrant officer, I found older warrant officers are well respected as a W01.

"The former president degraded our army to levels that should frighten any citizen concerned with our safety and security."

Obama was never the president. He was not eligible and was illegally installed into the white house by the uni-party. Calling him president denigrates and subverts our Constitution.

I’m not gonna be a lifer or anything. I just need an enlistment bonus to help my wife and crippled brother. I plan on sending all my money home. I’m the wrong color to work this close to Mexico. Whites are trash down here in Brownsville.

Start by getting women out of combat arms branches, cross dressers out of everything and restoring Chaplains to the positions they have historically had, not muted government puppets. And tell Mickie Weinstein to go to hell now rather than waiting.

Then you want to go DHS.. maybe liaison to ICE in armory capacity, or whatever they call it now. Gunsmithing is a great ticket for the new enforcement plans.

That’s what I was thinking as I read this article. A lot of upgrades may make sense anyway (to keep US forces on top of their game), but wrt to Russia and Europe the NATO allies need to do their own upgrades and expand forces to provide the necessary deterrence. Trump will certainly see it this way, as he has indicated before.

The 2% of GDP military spending standard should be an absolute minimum (currently only being met by 4 of the NATO allies other than USA).

Each of the branches establish their own age limits. the following is from Military.com:

Air Force - Be between the ages of 17-27

Army - Be between the ages of 17-34

Coast Guard - Be between the ages of 17- 39

Marines - Be between the ages of 17-29

Navy - Be between the ages of 17-34

There are other restrictions that must be covered prior to acceptability to include things like the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test. (Different score for different branches) Some other ones are meeting exacting physical, mental, and moral standards for the Marines or having no more than two dependents for the Air Force, Army, or Coast Guard. Outside of that, you will find that the physical requirements are greatly enhanced for all the branches and if you make it, you will be in the best shape you probably have ever been in. And at 32, your body is just beginning to slow down but you will be expected to compete with the 18 year old peer and the standards they establish for them, at least annually. I wish you good luck and hope you succeed.

I think 26 is the outside age. It used to be anyway.
