Senator John McCain has written President Donald Trump to call out Russian attempts to 'dismember' Ukraine through new attacks, and warning that his new administration is being tested by President Vladimir Putin.
He wrote after Russian artillery fired on Ukrainian positions, reigniting the conflict and killing as many as a dozen soldiers.

the very best thing trump can do is say its none of our business like Russia did concerning the travel restrictions...
Sounds more to me like McCain has issued a press release in the form of a letter to the president.
Should Russia intervene since Mexico is trying to reclaim territory from us? Why should we care about Ukraine? McCain needs to explain whose interests he is serving.
Is old McCain demented?
Poor Kiev. It’s pretty damn desperate when you’re latching onto John McCain as your advocate in Washington.
I can’t confirm this, but I think the Black Sabbath song “War Pigs” may have been written specifically about McCain.
His dream was to drop a nuke on Russia flying his A-4 Skyhawk.
McCain is mentally damaged.
Either that or he’s this dangerous by choice.
Enough of Sen. McCain's showboating actions. Pres. Bush (43) should've have put Sen. McCain in jail for that stunt long before.
The current offensive by the Ukrainian government started after McCain told them to start an offensive:
I admire the fact that you will fight for your homeland, Graham told Ukraines 36th Separate Marine Brigade in the town of Shyrokyne, about four kilometers from the line of contact, according to a video released Monday by the Ukrainian presidency.
Your fight is our fight, Graham said during the visit on Saturday alongside President Petro Poroshenko. 2017 will be the year of offense, he continued. All of us will go back to Washington and we will push the case against Russia. ...”
...
McCain, a former Republican presidential candidate and prisoner of war in Vietnam, said: I believe you will win. I am convinced you will win and we will do everything we can to provide you with what you need to win. ...”
His defense corp backers are banking on war. Juan wants his paycheck/bonus.
Nice bait and switch.
Glad you could get all the Russians riled up on FR.
Of course the article talks about ARMING Ukraine, not sending our troops to fight for Ukraine.
But hey, as long as it helps Russia, the Russians on here will keyboard commando to seek to destroy a sovereign nation.
When you’re fighting a hostile terrorist state like Russia, I’m sure it’s acceptable to get all the help you can get.
Don’t you think?
We should stay out of this militarily. But maybe Putin needs a few things from Trump in return for leaving the Ukraine alone.
Who died and elected McCain vice president?
Best thing for the Ukraine (and the Baltic states) would be for Trump and Putin to agree on a general non-aggression statement that respects borders except for the possibility of sanctioning the transfer of Crimea to Russia as is already de facto the case. There could be discussions about minor changes to borders of east Ukraine where populations are largely pro-Russian. But this should be very limited as there are significant numbers of Russians in many other places such as Estonia, Latvia, Moldova and further west in Ukraine.
I think Trump has some political capital to spend with Putin with agreements on other points such as Syrian security and reset of sanctions. He could tell Vlad, “hey you know big guy, I like you but you can’t have much more of the Ukraine and you can’t go into eastern Europe. Do we see eye to eye?”
What’s Putin gonna say, no? Like all rebellious teens, he needs limits. Give him some and show him how to hit a rescue club. If we can get the Russians to take up golf, they will have a great place to lash out at stuff without killing millions of people.
