Republicans on a Senate committee on Thursday suspended panel rules to force a vote on President Trumps Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) nominee over a Democratic protest.
Republicans on the Environment and Public Works Committee, led by Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), changed the rules governing a quorum so that only the panels Republicans needed to be in attendance to approve Scott Pruitts nomination to lead the EPA.
The committees full roster of Republicans including Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), whose nomination to be attorney general is awaiting consideration on the Senate floor attended Thursdays hearing and approved Pruitt on an 11-0 vote.

AG was the first nominated, wasn’t it? What is the holdup?
No kidding. Who knew the GOP had this in them? They just needed the right person to lead the battle.
Chuckles and Nanzi: we couldn’t have picked better consiglieare for the `rats.
Trump is going to win and win.
McConnell and the Senate leadership team - including the parliamentarian - are making these decisions, not Trump.
What I don’t understand is why the GOP senators are not extending the argument: these boycotting Dems are on the public payroll and are not showing up for work. You or I would be fired.
Get this message out there, and the Dems will come running back. Anyone who believes differently is an idiot.
What I'm hearing in the news, is that Republicans will hold off on Sessions as long as needed to use his Senate vote to get a majority for confirming others. If they use the nuclear option and bypass Dems, they'll need Sessions vote in the Senate to get that 51 vote majority (because of a couple Repubs that defect).
If the 'pubs in DC haven't been finally forced to acknowledge the evil on the other side, I can't comprehend what it would take. I'm referring to Senator Franken's mini-filibuster at the Senate Judiciary hearing yesterday. Senator Franken was so over-the-top with his assault on the integrity of both Senator Sessions and Senator Cruz, that it's tough to imagine how there's any way to walk it back.
Yes, I went and watched Franken’s assault on you tube yesterday.
He was so far over the top there is no way to take it back, ever.
I have so many feelings of hate and rage that I have never felt in my life......I need to get off here!!!
Good show!
There is no nuclear option for executive appointments. Reid blew this up too. So McConnell just needs 50 plus Pence. Which means that sessions must remain a senator first to vote for DeVos.
Does anyone here think that McConnell or Ryan would be doing anything if it wasn’t for Trump? This is what is called leadership. It has been sorely lacking in the GOP since Reagan.
It’s because of the mandate. And Trump gets the credit for the mandate.
If it were truly about Trump, Obamacare and Tax reform would be done or close to it.
McConnell and Ryan have their own priorities while they try to make Trump feel they are team players.
I trust McConnell a little bit. I don’t trust Ryan at all.
Gotta love how The Hill portrays this as the GOP “suspending the rules” rather than focusing on the unprecedented Dem obstruction.
It is scary how close they were. What a huge gift from God that He rebuffed them! What do we make of it? Hope we give thanks and turn our hearts to Him.
And that is why the left is so pissed..they thought they had their dictatorship in the bag..and they failed so they are lashing out..but they are such idiots all they are doing is proving why Trump won, and if Trump were running for President right now he would win by an even bigger margin
The Soviets failed with this same stunt at the UN at the start of the Korean War.
But to boycott the hearing and not even show up and Trump is STILL getting his picks through committee to the full Senate, that is a little embarrassing.
democRATS are AWOL...
This is the same thing the Finance Committee did yesterday with regard to Price and Mnuchun when the Democrats refused to show up for that hearing as well.
Resulting in unanimous votes. :-)
The nuclear option was already done by Harry Reid years ago. That is not on the table. They need Sessions to get 50 votes for DeVos because two Republicans have already announced they will vote against her - plus Pence would make a 51-50 confirmation, assuming there are no other defections.
