WASHINGTON (Reuters) - About 900 U.S. State Department officials signed an internal dissent memo protesting a travel ban by U.S. President Donald Trump on refugees and travelers from seven Muslim-majority countries, a source familiar with the document said on Tuesday, in a rebellion against the new president's policies.
A senior State Department official confirmed the memorandum had been submitted to acting Secretary of State Tom Shannon through the department's "dissent channel," a process in which officials can express unhappiness over policy (http://bit.ly/2jOYW0y).
White House spokesman Sean Spicer said on Monday he was aware of the memo but warned career diplomats that they should either "get with the program or they can go."
A draft of the dissent memo seen by Reuters argued that the executive order would sour relations with affected countries, inflame anti-American sentiment and hurt those who sought to visit the United Spates for humanitarian reasons.
It said the policy "runs counter to core American values of non-discrimination, fair play and extending a warm welcome to foreign visitors and immigrants.

Not “travelers from seven Muslim-majority countries”, but travelers from seven countries who have no stable government or infrastructure through which to vet visitors and immigrants.
That is fantastic: they are listing themselves as people to fire. Too much winning!
Fire every Obama era swamp creature trolling in the Trump administration.
Yup, hiring freeze is in effect.
Glad you liked it.
lol
Fire them and use the savings for the wall. This way we can start the wall sooner.
These are the 900 that have volunteered for duty in Ulan Bator for the next several years..........It was -21°F there yesterday.................
“.....those who sought to visit the United Spates [sic] for humanitarian reasons.”
SERIOUSLY? Who from those countries comes here for ‘humanitarian reasons?’ I get that some are escaping oppression, but they are not coming here for humanitarian reasons, only to save their own lives; they will not soon perform acts of humanitarianism. We have been letting them in for humanitarian reasons.
Even a civil servant can be fired. Let them take it to court.
It will take years to settle, just like the ATC’s fired by Reagan..............................
My brother was just out of serving 4 years in the Air Force and was thrilled to get hired after the firing. Made it a career. Retired at 55, took another ATC job at a small, regional airport and just retired for good last August, at 61 years of age, and a very well off retiree, all thanks to what started with Ronald Reagan.
Yup...
...900 times.
Well, it appears the first 1.6% of President Trump’s required 10% personnel cut at the Snake Department have self-identified themselves.
You make an excellent point!
900 vacancies in the state department
They should remember Reagan and the air traffic controllers. State Dept sinecures are a lot easier to replace than the air traffic crew.
The Department of State needs only about 100 employees to function properly...........................
Lay them off for 90 days. If things are running satisfactorily at that time, make it permanent...................
Thank them for submitting the Firing list, saved us the time for ferreting them out
You would think that they would realize that bureaucrats are as interchangeable as parts on a Mustang. You can move them around from department to department like filing cabinets, including their red staplers......................
> then reshuffle them so that theyre all working out of the basement,
And whatever happens, don’t let them keep their red Swingline stapler!
