Chris Matthews gave generally respectful treatment to pro-life activist Abby Johnson, who appeared on last nights Hardball in the context of discussing the March for Life. But Matthews challenged Johnson on the positiongenerally adopted by the pro-life movementthat the only person who should be punished is the doctor performing the abortion, and not the woman who chose to have one.
Said Matthews: If abortions a murder and the person who goes to an abortion clinic is given no sanctions, no punishment whatever, theres something that doesnt square there . . . if you believe its murder, you go after the person who went to the clinic to have the abortion. Or else you treat her like a child, a vulnerable person whos not really a grownup . . . Going after the doctor is a cute way of avoiding the question. If its murder, act on it. If its not, stop saying it.

Chris Matthews tells pro-life activist that refusing to punish the woman who has an abortion is treating her like a child.
Ping to Liberal Media Criticism list.
Actually, unless the woman self aborts, one would go after the person or persons who performed the abortion.
Unquestionably, there should be murder charges for the doctors who perform abortions, the nurses that assist in the abortions and the women who have abortions.
Life begins at the exact moment of conception and any type of abortion is murder.
Chrissy doesn’t know that it isn’t defined as murder under the law and you don’t make criminal laws retroactive.
Chrissy lost the narrative long ago when he utter something about “chill up my leg or something.”
He needs to retire before he gets run out.
Wouldn’t be a contract killing? If that was the case you’d go after the person paying for it and the killer. Course, we’d run out of jail space...
“Wouldnt be a contract killing? If that was the case youd go after the person paying for it and the killer.”
Exactly, as soon as a women contacts an abortionist, she is conspiring to commit homicide.
You have a point.
Both the woman and the doctor are responsible. If you hire someone to murder another you will be charged.
Why aren’t these antiametican libtards pushing for the same “even after the baby is delivered live” standard for abortion around the world?
America is one of the few nations with this extremist position.
Question— how was this issue handled before Roe vs. Wade? Who was punished and in what manner, for illegal.abortions back then??
This question of do you punish a mother and all that, seems out of place to me. We have a long history before 1973 of abortions being regulated and/or banned in many states. Why does nobody talk about how those laws were enforced then, and who suffered legal sanctions due to the action then?? Isn’t that relevant to the debate?
If a person causes a car wreck that kills the mother and the unborn child, that person is charged twice.
Hey Cissy Matthews, how about charges for parents, boyfriends, and pp workers who coerce young girls to get abortions they don’t actually want?
I’ve long believed that any woman who can casually murder her own children isn’t fit to be a parent. Chris actually has a point.
Here’s one instance in which I agree with Matthews.
No, you go after the abortionist and the solicitor.
I get why that’s the politically easier thing to advocate, but I don’t see by what logic the woman isn’t at least an accessory to the purported murder and likely more.
“Hey Cissy Matthews, how about charges for parents, boyfriends, and pp workers who coerce young girls to get abortions they dont actually want?”
They should be charged too, but even if a person is coerced into committing a murder, they are charged with murder.
The solicitor?
