The man who was shot on the University of Washington campus during heated protests last week is calling for constructive dialogue.
The 34-year-old man, who was shot in the abdomen and has undergone multiple surgeries, was shot by a supporter of the conservative speaker Milo Yiannopoulos on Jan. 20.
The unidentified man released a statement through his attorney asking to engage with the shooter in hopes of preventing future violence and deescalating tensions.
The circumstances of the shooting are still being investigated by campus police, who have not released information on a possible motive. UW Police Major Steve Rittereiser declined to give an update on the investigation, according to The Guardian.
The shooting occurred during a chaotic scene as people attempting to shut down the Yiannopoulos event merged with hundreds of anti-Trump protesters who marched onto campus and clashed with Yiannopoulos supporters and police.
More than 100 city and campus police officers in riot gear tried to keep order, breaking up fights and using pepper spray as items including bricks, fireworks and paint were hurled at them.
Following the shooting, the shooter turned himself in to campus police claiming hed been assaulted and used his firearm in self-defense. He was released by authorities in consultation with the prosecuting attorneys office pending further investigation.
The victim, who is recovering in Harborview Medical Center, says he was on campus to resist the appearance of Yiannopoulos and is aware of the conflicting narratives surrounding the shooting.
My client isnt interested in using the apparatus of the state to punish the individual, attorney Sarah Lippek said Tuesday. Hed like to engage in dialogue and a restorative justice process.
>Seems to me that the shootee knows that the shooter will not face prosecution, and he wants to make it seem like he influenced that decision. My guess is that the shootee has been told that law enforcement has determined the shooting to be self-defense. This theory says that since the shootee would be considered the aggressor if the case is determined to be self-defense, the shootee needs to appear as magnanimous as he can right now.
The shootee was the guy going around beating the crap out of Trump supporters(Watch the videos). He needs to be in jail.
Maybe he should have tried dialogue before he got shot instead of attacking the person who shot him in self-defense.
Yep. Spin it to win it when you the facts are against you.
It might have made a great Monty Python sketch.
Sounds like more range time was in order.
“restorative justice process” equals kumbaya. I’ve been in seminars. It’s a tool of the SJWs. One of its proponents and speakers is Peter Yarrow known for among other things as having been convicted for molesting a 14 year old girl. He served three months in jail until Carter pardoned him.
Dear lefty punk,
We don’t care to dialog with rioting bullies. Don’t take part in riots, respect conservatives right to speak, and you we won’t have to shoot you.
The guy was shot in the abdomen - so close to “center mass” I guess. Maybe get something that starts with a .4 next time. From the sounds of the “pop” on video it didn’t sound as loud as I would have expected to hear a gunshot. My son was there at the time in the square and didn’t even know someone had been shot until after they left. Obviously the whole place was very loud and confusing.
In one professional photo the shootee is being helped by a rioter in a distinctive helmet. That same helmeted guy is seen in other videos standing right in front of the high-school kid that got hit with a jar of blue paint and has a bloody nose. These rioters are anarchists - not “peaceful protesters”. The largest banner was in black with white lettering: “No MORE PRESIDENTS”.
OT, but the expression “multiple surgeries” always sounds like something an uneducated person would say.
I realize it has become accepted vernacular, like using the phrase “begging the question” to mean “to ask a question that begs for an answer,” which is not at all its original meaning.
My client isnt interested in using the apparatus of the state to punish the individual, attorney Sarah Lippek said Tuesday.
In other words, he knows he was in the wrong and the shooter was only defending himself.
“... that he just might have been attacking the man...”
From the videos I have seen on youtube that seems to be the case. I’m sure that the cops interviewed closer witnessess and gathered better video too. Then released the shooter when he turned himself in, which says a lot on what the story is based on the evidence.
Translation: "My client doesn't want to go to jail for felonious rioting, assault and battery."
And when that proves to be the case, “Campus Safety Magazine” will undoubtedly do their job and spin, hide and confuse the facts to advance the leftists’ narrative.
You're absolutely correct re anarchists.
Some of my past comments re dealing with them may have sounded harsh to some, but 'anarchists' by definition are fomenting insurrection within our borders, making them eligible for traitors' sanctions under the Constitution.
This includes, imho, much of the BLM and BP vermin.
Matters not to me whether the sanctions are delivered via nooses or M4s.
Lots of twitter posts right after it happened - but who knows what to believe with those.
bkmk
The shooter claimed the guy he shot was a white supremacist because of a swastika tattoos... and only found out the guy shot was a left wing protester after
No way the left and gun grabber and media would let the slide if the shooter was really one from our side...
I really think the guy with gun is a leftist there with a gun to shoot Milo....the left is hiding a blue on blue shooting
