Within four hours of becoming president of the United States, Donald Trump signed an executive order intended to limit immediately the effects of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) in ways that are revolutionary.
With the stroke of a pen, the president assaulted the heart of the law that was the domestic centerpiece of his predecessors administration. How did this happen? How can a U.S. president, who took an oath to enforce the laws faithfully, gut one of them merely because he disagrees with it?
Here is the back story.
When ObamaCare went through Congress in 2010, all Democrats in Congress supported it and all congressional Republicans were opposed. The crux of their disagreement was the laws command that everyone in the United States obtain and maintain health insurance -- a command that has come to be known as the individual mandate.
Republicans argued that Congress was without the authority to compel people to enter the marketplace by purchasing a product -- that such decisions should be freely made by individuals and that that freedom was protected from governmental interference by the Constitution. Democrats argued that the commerce clause of the Constitution, which permits Congress to regulate commerce among the states, also permits it to compel commercial activity on the part of individuals who make up a highly regulated component of interstate commerce.
To ensure compliance with the individual mandate, the law provided that the IRS would collect the fair market value of a bare-bones insurance policy from those who did not obtain and maintain one. The government would then take that money and purchase a health insurance policy for that individual who rejected the laws command.

Hilarious.
First I ever heard of it. In all the talk about the penalty, nobody ever said “and when you pay the penalty, you will be sent the details of the insurance plan you were enrolled in using your penalty money”.
I just got a letter from the IRS today warning me that if I stay uninsured I may face heavy penalties this year so I should enroll before Jan 31st. It didn’t say anything about using my penalty to buy me insurance. Glad I can ignore that letter.
I have been claiming an exemption because insurance would cost more than 8% of my gross income. If they actually provided insurance in exchange for paying the 2% penalty, that exemption wouldn’t need to exist.
Which leads to the interesting question of how do you refinance a mortgage. You have to pay the full “interest” no matter how long you actually have the loan, so I guess refinancing never happens ? You buy a $150K home on a 30 year mortgage, but owe $400K even if your life changes and you want to sell 6 months later ? That must work out great.
The winning. It’s now contagious. It’s going to start breaking out all over the country.
=)
Reference bump - thanks!
Mathematically, it would not be difficult to perform the same sort of calculation to a refinance.
But then it would be transparently obvious that it really WAS interest that was being charged rather than a transaction fee.
I want one on those!
I will be ready for the construction, with my daughter and five sons. We are in preparation.
God Bless President Trump...
Thanks for the ping, Jim.
Everything is good, and getting better by the day. I love winning!

Obamacare doesn’t need to exist.
Obamacare appeared to be based on the vaporous assumption that Doctors can make people well.
The word of Yehova says that doctors take all the money that people have and deliver absolutely nothing.(Mark 5:25-26)
The US government apparently does the same.

Thanks for the ping, Jim.

Bump!
I suspected Trump was a snake-oil salesman, but I vowed to give him a chance to prove his claims. So far, I’m beyond pleased.
I hope he continues to bushwhack the liberal undergrowth that has overtaken the path of liberty.
