Careful what you wish for...If Minn did earlier, that would have given Trump even more EVs.

Look at the red counties map of the past few elections and consider the population of the House of Representatives. The EC votes would have gone Republican for POTUS and we never would have had to endure obummer-the-narcissist.

I’m afraid VA is lost forever but I think Trump can win MN in 2020. He lost by only 1.5 points and if Egg McMuffin voters had gone for Trump, it changes the outcome. VA was 3 points more D than the national vote with Nova-Kaine on the ticket

I like this because then we have a congressional district level of firewall against voter fraud. If we didn’t have the electoral college then presidential elections would turn on competition between political machines to invent the most votes and the big cities they thrive in would completely dominate elections. With the current Electoral college apportionment system the fraud in one city like Philadelphia is limited to only swaying the state of Pennsylvania. The EC system creates state level firewalls against fraud. On this system of congressional district apportionment then the fraud is firewalled at the district level so dirty voting precincts have the potential to sway at most 3 EVs (the district and the 2 statewide). With that firewall in place the dirty precincts in places like Philly could invent 10 votes for every citizen and only add at most 2 votes to the Democrats instead of the 20 they currently influence. That has the effect of taking a lot of corruption out of the system because it just isn’t worth the trouble except in the close districts- where there is also enough presence of the other party to make it difficult.

This is brilliant.

The last time Minn voted GOP was what 1972?

So this move splits the Twin cities away from the rest of the state and instead of the GOP getting 0 votes they'll get one or two.

Same w/ VA.

Thank God now that the dhimmi's are out of power they can only shoot themselves in the foot.

I all states did this, it would help Republicans. That is why it won’t happen.

A Freeper wiser than I did a bit of analysis on this and found that if all 50 states divided their electoral votes in this manner, the final total would still have been about the same.

Makes sense, in a close election. Would make "landslide" elections generally closer, I'd think. But ultimately, it wouldn't change much.

Now, if ONLY NY and CA did it, Dems would never win another presidential election.

Being from Minnesota, I find this very interesting.

The Democrats (DFL in MN) will howl a lot about it as it will result in Minnesota finally having some GOP electors. In 2016, the presidential voting may have given Trump 4 or 5 of the 8 districts.

Generally speaking I am not in favor of this state by state splitting of the EC voting. In fact, I would think it may be unconstitutional.

More Minnesota Information:

www.sos.state,mn,us [MN Sec’y of State]
Click on 2016 Official Election results
select: State General Election [Nov 8, 2016]
select: Election Statistics Maps
select: Election Result Maps
select: US Presidential Election Margins by County

If you do this you will fond the map with each county and the margin/% for Trump and Clinton

The map is mostly red and pink. Five counties are pale blue meaning 1-5% margin for Clinton.

I really believe MN would have 4 EC votes for Trump under this new proposed law.

P>Please, no more states than NE & ME splitting EV this way. My opinion.

Yeah, on balance it helps the GOP and that just is not fair. Imagine what would happen to states like CA,NY, IL, PA, MI, WI, and many other blue states. Just terrible.

I believe if Connecticut had it Trump would have gotten at least 2 EVs.

Exactly. And say a (unlikely) scenario occurred where the GOP candidate lost the national popular vote yet won a state/s under this NPVIC...the legislature would be in a politically untenable situation by NOT awarding their electoral votes to the winner of their state. Their constituencies would not be pleased! And would have valid legal grounds for a disenfranchisement claim.
