Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R) said Republicans should fight to get President Trump's coming Supreme Court nominee confirmed by any means necessary.
Trump has said he will be announcing his choice to fill the late Antonin Scalia's seat on the bench next week.
Republicans will need at least eight Democrats to support Trump's nominee to overcome the 60-vote filibuster hurdle. But Cruz suggested the GOP shouldn't rule out the so-called "nuclear option" to reduce the threshold to a majority. The move would be a gamble, setting a precedent that could weaken the GOP's position if Democrats come back into power.
I think we should do whatever it takes to get him confirmed," the former presidential candidate said on Fox News' "Hannity" Tuesday night.
When pressed about whether Republicans would employ the nuclear option this week, McConnell simply said: "The nominee will be confirmed."

There may not be a nuclear option if a few RINO’s in the Senate vote with the Democrats.
I’m sure glad Cruz was there to pronounce the obvious again.
Whew. That was close!
Don’t push away an ally....always accept the assistance.

Majority (52)
Republican (52)
Minority (48)
Democratic (46)
Independent (caucuses with Democrats) (2)
If we can limit it to two of the idiots on our side, Pence can rule the day.
When I see one, I’ll keep that in mind.
No ally of mine sits out all but parts of two days out of 100, when Hillary being elected president is on the line.
What’s done is done.
All I know is that I’m glad Ted Cruz is back on our side.
couple other SCOTUS sitting members will have trouble hanging on for four years, the nuclear option may be worth the gamble. might get to appoint at least one an maybe two more.
I am not happy with Cruz’s actions. BUT, given the shifts in momentum in this election, even his support two days before the election helped at a time when undecideds were starting to trend Trump’s direction. Every push helped.
A convention speech or a speech made independently a reasonable time after the convention, would have helped more.
I am laughing out loud at the Never Trumpers who published their names in their very own ‘black list.’ Ted at least avoided being that stupid.
You with your nonsense again?
You need to get over yourself.
Ted Cruz has done more for conservative causes than any current elected official.
Ted IS NOT on your side.
Ted is on Ted’s side.
Any guy on your side would fight tooth and nail to prevent Hillary Clinton from being president.
Ted was too busy proving how true to his principles he could be, to do more.
We will not have to worry about the consequences of this rule change for a long time. The American voters have given us the power to keep the court conservative. We have a mandate. We should definitely do whatever it takes.
GO NUCLEAR NOW!!!!
Ted didn’t spend two days at the end.
He spent an hour on phones months before the election.
He then spent one day participating at three events days before the election.
At the first event, he refused to say the name Trump.
He never endorsed the ticket. He said he was voting for it.
What a team player...
beebuster,
I have considered your point, too. It probably is worth it to get a few more justices ASAP.
One crucial factor is the fecklessness of the Democrats. If we restrain ourselves from using the “nuclear option,” there is still every chance that once they regain the Senate, the Dems will use it anyway . . . whether or not there was a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ to make SCOTUS appointments subject to the filibuster rule of 60.
Democrats can be trusted . . . to use every trick, lie, or deceit necessary to get and retain power and stamp out liberty as they enact their communist agenda.
You need to get over the sell-out Cruz.
The man has no morals whatsoever.
He was perfectly happy remaining silent for almost 100 days, while Hillary came withing a whisker of winning the election.
He never endorsed the ticket. He merely said he’d vote for it.
He refused to endorse Trump at the convention.
He refused to say Trump’s name at one of the three events he attended several days before the election.
As a NeverTrumper, Ted lives and dies by my tagline.
The fight was brutal but it’s over now. It’s time for the next battle and I want Ted fighting at our side. I think you know where I was during the primary. Time to move on.
You are right.....
Ted is trying to reinvent his image.....
....So obvious
