SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) An 18-year veteran of the Sarasota County Sheriffs Office has been arrested on numerous charges, including attempted murder.
Sheriff Knight said allegations that Frankie Eugene Bybee, 46, was harassing a 79-year-old woman led to an investigation into the deputys actions.
Sheriff Knight asserted Bybee took care of the elderly womans dog, visited her in the hospital and introduced her to his family all in an effort to gain her trust.
His actions are a disgrace not only to this agency, but to the law enforcement profession, said Sarasota County Sheriff Tom Knight.
The initial reports began on December 20, 2016 with the woman claiming the deputy was supposed to be watching her dog while she was ill and in the hospital. Instead, the deputy is accused of selling the dog on Craigslist.
The SCSO said the dog has been located and returned.
According to arrest affidavits, on January 9, four checks were written to Deputy Bybee in the victims name. Investigators said, the former deputy is accused of stealing checks from the victims house and writing them to himself and his children in the amount of $65-thousand.

Wow, a Florida LEO in trouble!
I’m shocked (sracasm tag)!
Too bad there’s no reliable test to identify a psycho. You can’t use shrinks to do this because they are the most psycho of all.
Don't drop the bar of soap in the showers, man.
In January, three days after the allegedly fraudulent checks were created, the victim claimed that Bybee came to her home in dark clothing, wearing latex gloves, and forced her to the floor inside. She accused him of [forcing] prescription medication in her mouth, causing lacerations and abrasions to her face, and bruising to her body. The victim passed out from the pills and when she awoke, called 911.
Investigators determined her home had filled with carbon monoxide after the internal door to her garage was left open and her car was left running.
I’m thinking this would make a good movie, with the right actor.
“Im thinking this would make a good movie, with the right actor.”
Christopher Walken comes to mind.
(Drexl Spivey in True Romance).
Christopher Walkin or Gary Oldman would be great.
A Lifetime movie.
Sold the poor woman’s dog on Craigslist while she was in the hospital? That’s a real bastard there.
Scammed a thousand dollars from her for vet bills and kept it before he did that, too.
It happens a lot... elder abuse that is. He’ll get a slap on the wrist and probably only pay something like 10 cents on the dollar in restitution.

It’s an increasing problem. Lost count of the times I came in my father’s house, to find him on the phone, divulging personal details to some stranger that called him, unsolicited.
We did have a bit of it with Mr. Mercat’s mother. I don’t think that either she or my mother had credit cards or debit cards. In my mother’s case, she turned the check book over to me and I paid her bills. Mr. M’s mother let him and his sister write out the check but she insisted on it only being in her name and signing the checks. No internet or debit cards. That’s where it gets scary.
I had a case where one of the parties was supposedly taking care of an Alzheimer’s patient. She and he would drive around town and pawn and sell his valuables. She would then spend the money on drugs. He was probably happy just to drive around with an attractive woman.
adult children too....I’ve seen one sibling basically get their elderly disoriented and easily influenced parent to exclude other siblings from access, let alone their wills....
