Currently, a half-billion dollars in taxpayer money is given to National Public Radio (NPR) and Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) each year. Trump plans to do away with that. The Hill has reported:
The Trump Administration needs to reform and cut spending dramatically, and targeting waste like the National Endowment for the Arts and National Endowment for the Humanities would be a good first step in showing that the Trump Administration is serious about radically reforming the federal budget, said Brian Darling, a former aide to Paul and a former staffer at the Heritage Foundation.
The Regan Administration attempted something similar in the 1980s, but was ultimately convinced against it. One of the cases made was that the government owes the American people access to news/information. Back then, there was no internet, only a few dozen televisions/news radio stations. They saw it as an actual public service (perhaps, rightly so). Today, however, broadcast television and FM radio is in a major decline with fewer and fewer viewers every year. After all, who feels like waiting for the 6 oclock news when you can just hop on the internet and get real-time news and current events?
On the Bernie Sanders campaign trail, he loved claiming that Norway was better than America. Well, Norway is planning to eliminate FM radio altogether. FM radio and satellite television are dying media forms that have been kept alive and propped up by government spending and the bureaucracy, so isnt it good that were pulling federal funding? If are profitable and do in fact have a strong audience, they wouldnt need to be subsidized with taxpayer money. Well, Hollywood doesnt think so:

Who is broadcast classical music and opera?
Nobody except public radio.
Yes, all the morons will start boo-hooing that Trump hates Big Bird and what will the kiddies do without him. Sesame Street (which has become heavy-handed leftist propaganda) makes millions from merchandising. It doesn’t need taxpayer money to survive.
PBS has gone 80% gay. P. Allen Smith actually uses gay p0rn music in his show. Ming Tsai outed himself as bi on-air.
During zero’s reign they’ve become brain-washing leftist demagogues; I fear what the children’s programming has become.
Big Bird will be fine. Unbelievable as it is, his future is secured, brought to you by the letters H, B, and O.
Just saying.
This article will have that many responses, today.

“Time for Big Bird to move out of PBS’ basement and get a real job.” .... Chris Plante 630WMAL The Chris Plante Show
How many billions do they make selling Sesame Street toys and merchandise?????? Can’t Big Bird keep them afloat???
Oh yeah, most of them will head to CNN. This also means no more lefty mockumentaries from Ken Burns.
I have pointed out before on duplicate threads and got criticized for it. Not everyone sees all the posts and duplicate threads serve a purpose was the rationale. I agree as not everyone will read through 10 pages of FR to see what they want, but there has to be a way to preclude duplicate threads. Maybe the mods should be more proactive. What is your take on this?
“George Noory????”
I still remembered that sh*thead pimping for obamatard in 2008 right before the elections. Couldn’t stand that jackhole. If it wasn’t for Ghost to Ghost, I rarely listen to that clown.
Hollywood should fund them. They contributed millions to Hillary’s campaign; that means they have millions of dollars of extra money lying around.
I don’t have extra money, the country as a whole doesn’t have extra money. If Hollywood wants PBS/NPR, they should be the ones who fund it.
Right.
This is incredibly great news!! I didn’t realize so much taxpayer money is wasted on these two dinosaurs. Strip away the funds and let the Left pass around the collection plate. Do they really believe in what NPR and PBS are doing? Great. So they can put their money where their mouth is. We, the middle class, wants that money in OUR pocket.
NPR = Gov’t Pravda
The welfare gravy train is finally coming to an end for all the leeches.
will you be celebrating gender bending and other alternative lifestyles?
Ha, ha, I agree with that. Sesame Street used to be fun and creative, and now it’s dull and awful. It’s just one lecture after another. I’m surprised kids are willing to watch it.
My wife and daughter will go into mourning if Poldark is not on next year. Right now, they are enjoying Victoria.
I have become a big YouTube fan at work. Lots of good stuff. I never listen to my CD collection anymore.
Can’t get that in the car, or the backyard radio!
“Yes, all the morons will start boo-hooing that Trump hates Big Bird”
That won’t be successful this time around. PBS has been fundraising off Big Bird for around 40 years. However, the creators, Sesame Street Workshop, claimed that PBS had been cutting their funding and shortchanging them.
HBO is now their primary funding source. Here is a link discussing the change:
Let’s hope Trump doesn’t give us Reagan’s O’Connor and Kennedy in a new face. Reagan was hamstrung too by a Democrat House.
