President Trump has decided to keep James Comey on as director of the FBI, the New York Times reported Tuesday morning.
Comey faced heavy criticism during the election from both sides of the aisle for his treatment of the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server.
FBI directors are appointed to 10-year terms to limit the political pressure on their position. Comey's began in 2013 under President Obama, but Trump has the power to dismiss Comey if he wants.
While presidents typically keep FBI directors for their full terms, Comey's fate had been up in the air due to the turbulent election.

Actually, this does not surprise me.
This surprises me. He can have no confidence in Comey. I don’t. I doubt that the entire nation does.
NY TIMES Reported...?
Yay! That means Comey’s gone!
Interesting....Since the FBI and the CIA are not really on the same page.
Disappointing. . . . There needed to be turnover just for the sake of appearance and propriety
For now.
Just as well. Her Thighness lost and another set of hearings would take time. Maybe the rank-and-file scared him straight.
Not real happy about it, but couple of points:
1. Comey ultimately answers to Sessions (once confirmed). That will be where he gets his marching orders.
2. Let the media run with this night and day for a while, while Trump reascends Obama’s EO’s, and dismantles abortion funding and all his other promises.
I really doubt Trump will keep Comey for over a year.
Bingo!
There is much more to this than we know....
I’m thinking he may not have been the enemy a lot of us were making him out to be. He may have been playing chess while they were playing checkers.
Look who won.
Actually, this does not surprise me.

I’d be interested to know why.
Reascends? Did you mean “rescinds?”
yepper - sorry at work and in a hurry:)
Trump can keep an eye on him through the more powerful that are under Comey (under only in office position).
I think Trump gained some GREAT clout during the hillary fiasco and he's not worried about Comey.
Besides, this IS one less "complaint" the democrats can level at him.
I think we can just ... carry on.
Thanks for catching that...
No one trusts Comey, nor is he trustworthy.
I never thought Comey was the enemy
In his announcement of not indicting he then proceeded to lay out the case that loudly spoke for an indictment. Comey thus indicated he was caught between a rock and a hard place. He was obviously being prevented from seeking an indictment
I doubt Trump will keep Comey that long. I’m willing to bet this is temporary until the rest of Trump’s Cabinet is confirmed. I’m willing to bet that Trump and Sessions have a replacement in mind, but need Sessions and the remaining cabinet members confirmed first.
