For wary Washington journalists, it seemed only a matter of time before Donald J. Trumps presidency would lead to a high-tension standoff between his administration and the news media.
But on Day 1? The news media world found itself in a state of shock on Sunday, a day after Mr. Trump declared himself in a running war with the media and the presidents press secretary, Sean Spicer, used his first appearance on the White House podium to deliver a fiery jeremiad against the press.

One of the criteria is "actual malice." The other is "wanton and willful disregard for veracity." The "Russian whores pissing on each other" story could be considered an example of both, and Trump could very well build a case against any media that published that dreck.
D.C. disciples of deceit and their collusive media co-conspirators.
I thought they declared war first.
Excuse me NYT, it was and is the media, including the NYT that declared war on Trump, not the other way around. Problem is you are not used to having someone, especially a Republican fighting back and calling you our for your lack of ethics, corruption and lies. You start reporting the truth and the war will end, so we know it will never end because you and the rest of the corrupt media is incapable of reporting the truth.
Hey. Even Homer nods. KellyAnn should not have sidestepped so many times. Should have said Spicer opining based on facts at hand. Sure he will investigating any further information if it becomes available and will issue a supplementary statement if appropriate.
Do not let the Bastxxds get you down Trumpsters.
The standoff isn't between Trump and "the news media," it's between Trump and Democrat activists pretending to be objective journalists.
The hacks make partisan attacks and then run back and take cover behind the label of "journalist" and then claim they are merely the "news media" whenever their target pushes back.
Scum, they are.
“Mr. Trump declared himself in a running war with the media and the presidents press secretary, Sean Spicer, used his first appearance on the White House podium to deliver a fiery jeremiad against the press.”
Words cannot describe my satisfaction.
Thank you, Mr. President.
The NYT and WaPo et al might get highly tense but I suspect that the President will do it as a matter of course and won’t worry too much about it.
Old media monopoly has been enemy #1 for 50 years. The new media has brought their lies and fake news to light led largely by Rush Limbaugh, FR, and many other internet sites.
Trump has taught the GOP how to play the game. The mainstream media are the enemy, and they must be treated at such, and fought every step of the way. There is no alternative.
No, President Trump should have press conferences but he should only invite reporters and bloggers from non-liberal states like Texas, Oklahoma, Montana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Alabama, Mississippi, Nebraska, etc. - and non from major metropolitan areas or far-left fish wraps.
Millions of Americans have been saying for many, many years that the Number One Problem in America is the Big Lies Leftist Media.
Finally. Somebody heard us!

Yes, and I am anxiously awaiting the day he tosses them out of the White House and expands his news conferences to include a multitude of news organizations that are NOT affiliated with the mainstream news outlets.
Enjoy of he abyss, @holes!
Since they were so insulted by his first one, Trump should not have another press conference for the first 100 days. He can put out his tweets and keep everyone informed as to all the exciting things that are getting done. And he can prove that we can do without the Leftist media any time he wishes.

I am praying that he does exactly as you have suggested. Most people do not realize just how damaging to America that evil, corrupt institution really is. In my view President Trump actually has a duty to educate the people about the danger of being indoctrinated by the Marxist-inspired anti-Americans who dominate the mainstream news media, the entertainment industry, and the country’s educational systems.
Whats wrong with having facts and truthful reporting with zero politics?
When the schoolyard bullie gets called out, he can’t handle it.
Even if he has big news, Spicer should start every presser by correcting all the lies and inaccuracies of the past 24 hours - the MSM would quickly be trained that if they ever want a meaningful press conference, stop putting out BS that Spicer has to correct.
Trump has taught the GOP how to play the game. The mainstream media are the enemy, and they must be treated at such, and fought every step of the way. There is no alternative.

My thoughts exactly. Loyal Americans must come to the realization that there is no compromising with the Marxist-inspired anti-American Left in the news media, the entertainment industry, and the education systems throughout the country. These people are radically committed to a globalist ideology that is hellbent on the destruction of America. NEVER COMPROMISE WITH THESE PEOPLE.
Didn’t the NYTimes file for bankruptcy protection?
The Cartel Media is lying every 5 minutes with a conjured up negative about Donald Trump. Even with the Obama inspired racial tension in this country, the media threw gasoline on the fire to say that Trump removed MLK’s bust from the WH. Untrue. Then when Trump reacts, the media screams he is acting petty.
I am glad Trump is clearing the air from the beginning with the obligation to fight every lie, no matter how trivial since lies cannot stand.
So the Cartel media can lie a thousand times about a thousand small things and Trump should be bigger than to fight back. I guess they don’t know Trump. He is not taking their bullshit like Romney did. He is punching back and its gonna be bloody.
