John Lewiss Record in Congress Is Less Than Heroic
The Democrat deserves an honored place in history. But Trump has a point about what hes done lately.
Jason L. Riley
If Donald Trump had been referring to Rep. John Lewiss civil-rights record when he wrote on Twitter Saturday that the congressman was all talk and no action, the president-elect might need a refresher course in U.S. history. One of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.s closest allies, Mr. Lewis was on the front lines of the successful fight to end Jim Crow.
But for anyone who bothers to check out the full tweet, its clear that Mr. Trump was referring to Mr. Lewiss record as a lawmaker. Congressman John Lewis, wrote Mr. Trump after the lawmaker questioned the legitimacy of the election, should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart (not to mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results. All talk, talk, talkno action or results. Sad!
Mr. Lewis, a liberal Democrat from Georgia, was first elected to Congress in 1986, and he has spent much of the past three decades reminding people what he did before he got there. Lewis has worked to commemorate the civil rights revolution in which he played such a large part, explains the Almanac of American Politics. He got a federal building in Atlanta named for King and won historic trail designation for the demonstrators route [for the 1965 march] from Selma to Montgomery [Ala.]. . . . Since 1998, he has led members of Congress on pilgrimages to civil rights sites.
All of which should further secure John Lewiss rightful place in U.S. history. But to Mr. Trumps point, what do Mr. Lewiss mostly black constituents in Atlanta have

Its kinda funny what happens when they turn on the spotlight.
I love this guy and loved his book.
.
The author of this article must by one of those mediocre Negroes that I have been hearing about.
“Jason Riley is a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute and a columnist for the Wall Street Journal, where he worked for more than 20 years writing opinion pieces on politics, economics, education, immigration and race, among other subjects. Hes also a commentator for Fox News, where hes appeared for more than a decade, and a frequent public speaker.
After joining the Journal in 1994, he was named a senior editorial page writer in 2000 and a member of the Editorial Board in 2005. In 2008 he published “Let Them In,” which argues for a more free-market oriented U.S. immigration policy. His second book, Please Stop Helping Us, which is about the track record of government efforts to help the black underclass, was published in 2014. He joined the Manhattan Institute in 2015.
Born in Buffalo, N.Y., Mr. Riley earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He has also worked for USA Today and the Buffalo News. He lives in suburban New York City with his wife and three children.”
Even googling didnt help, looks interesting though
Saint John Lewis is not a hero?
What??
Lewis says Trump is illegitimate, but he won Georgia by more than 50% of the vote. So Lewis’s home state picked Trump and so Lewis doesn’t speak for his home state.
OMG! It appears this article criticizes Lewis. But he’s an icon.
This paragraph says it all.
“Mr. Lewiss poor record is not unique among black politicians with large black constituencies. Atlanta has had black Democratic mayors pushing liberal policies for decades, and blacks have been well-represented as city councilmen and in the top echelons of the police department and school system. Much the same is true of other major cities with large black populationsBaltimore, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Washingtonwhich are lagging economically, notwithstanding black political clout from Congress down to the local school board. This is what Republicans mean when they say black voters have been getting little in return for their steadfast loyalty to Democrats.”
Mr. Lewis was on the front lines of the successful fight to end Jim Crow.
This is TRUE, what the article doesn’t mention is that he Immediately JOINED THE OPPRESSORS, The DEMOCRAT PARTY!!!
WHy would someone do that?? Power? Money? Influence? or just plain MORAL BANKRUPTCY?
John Lewis is just downright embarrassing. Yeah, he hung out with MLK, but that's about the extent of his creds. But the most amazing thing about him is that, compared to his constituents, he's the best and the brightest. He's smarter than everyone who voted for him.
Thanks to for sticking closely to the liberal plantation, pandering to the "unofficial, spoken only in whispers" Democrat attitude that black people really are so inferior that they can't survive without government handouts and special privileges.
Thanks, John.
And so are others, like: 'Icons' Roman Polanski and Bill Cosby.
"To many Poles, Polanski had been an iconic figure. Events from 30 years ago, his past, were just an ambiguous blur, certainly nothing that could overcast his greatness."
The Leftist media toss around the term "Icon" frequently to fawn over and label their favorite media darling as an "Icon".

It seems he has a hard time paying his real estate taxes in DC
