Atlantas deputy police chief says hes concerned about an upward trend in murders across the city.
So far this year, there have been six homicides in the city of Atlanta. Thats three times the amount the city had at this time last year.
We're concerned about the trend, anytime you have homicides, youre concerned. But this time last year, we had two, APD Deputy Chief Darryl Tolleson said.
By the end of January 2016, there were just eight homicides in the city.
Tolleson said four additional detective slots have just been added to the APD homicide unit.
Last year, Atlanta had a total of 111 homicides.
(That was the first time) since 2008 that weve been over 100, he said.

For God’s sake, DON’T TELL JOHN LEWIS.
Atlanta’s new slogan: “We’re not Chiago!”
or Chicago
Sheeesh!
Is it better to go on odd days or even days?
Now that is funny...
Now that is funny...
Extended slogan: "We're not Chicago, but we are certainly trying!"
I read the article. Sooooooooo, who are these victims?
Shoe salesmen? Bee keepers? Mensa members? Rotarians?
Maybe we can meet the gun grabbing apologists for gun violence in the middle: “youthful victims of gun violence”?
Maybe they need a good talking to by Saint John Lewis, that will fix it.
Give John Lewis a gentle thump on the head and ask why he is full of talk, talk, talk and no action while his constituents are getting killed.
No matter how you spell it, Chitcago is a mess.
PIKERS!!!
Here in Chicago, we average one every 11.4 HOURS!!!
Go away until you’re ready to do murder the RIGHT way!!
Has anyone ever noted that Chicago had the same number killed over New Year’s Weekend as in the Ft. Lauderdale airport shooting?
Where was the coverage?
Oh wait: Chicago already *has* draconian gun laws...
Murder rate worse in Atlanta than Chicago =>
http://www.city-data.com/city/Atlanta-Georgia.html
http://www.city-data.com/city/Chicago-Illinois.html
Chicago’s murder rate is about 4 1/2 times that.
As we call it at work... the N factor.
Last year's murder rate was already enough to put Atlanta in the top 10 per capita in the entire US (among cities of 250,000 or more).
To put into context just how bad those numbers are, the national rate for the US in 2015 was 4.9 (a sharp increase from the 4.4 in 2014), and Canada's rate was 1.7.
John Lewis will take to the streets tomorrow and stop this before the sun sets.(/s)
Chicago may have the highest overall score, but the adjusted murder score puts St. Louis on top.
