Viet Cong veteran Vo Ban Tam remembers the first time he crossed paths with John Kerry on the banks on the Bay Hap river, a day that ended in bloodshed.
Almost a half-century later, the now 70-year-old Mekong Delta shrimp farmer locked eyes with the US Secretary of State on Saturday and they warmly grasped hands in mutual respect.
Kerry returned to the Vietnam waterway at the end of a visit to the Communist nation, less than a week before he was to leave office, searching for the spot where he won a Silver Star for bravery as a young US Navy lieutenant.
On February 28, 1969, as the skipper of Swift Boat PCF-94, Kerry was patrolling when Vo Ban Tam's unit launched an ambush.

Your documentation and photos are great...it’s amazing you keep that HTML and photos on photobucket at-the-ready for instant use. How many of those do you have?
February 28, 1969: When Kerry’s Patrol Craft Fast 94 received a B-40 rocket shot from shore, he hot dogged his craft beaching it in the center of the enemy position. Kerry was given a Silver Star for his action.
I’d be embarrassed to admit it. :)
I'm so glad we could pay for Kerry's field trip to Vietnam.
It's a bloody wonder the Vietnamese didn't give Kerry their equivalent of our Presidential Medal of Freedom for his role in their victory.
Isn’t it amazing that they’re able to find this guy after nearly 50 years have passed? I’m really impressed!
I had a buddy who spent about 100 days in Country.
First he spent 11 day clearing tunnels with two other guys and me.
Then he had a ChiCom frag thrown in his two-man foxhole. He kicked it into his grenade sump before it blew, but he still got a slice on his neck. Purple Heart #1
Two day later we were finally able to get a Medevac bird in, so we put him on that. The helo promptly was hit by NVA fire and mushed down into a paddy. My buddy took a round through his biceps - only hit muscle, no bone. Purple Heart #2
Two Hearts, so he was pulled out of the bush and left at Hill 55 (Carlos Hathcock’s base) “guarding” the tent with all our seabags. VC used explosives in a hole to toss a “dud” 250# bomb, rewired with a pull fuse, at Hill 55. My buddy took a piece of shrapnel in the calf. Purple Heart #3
Three Hearts and he was sent home after three and a half months in country.
Just like John Kerry, right?
/S
Did the ministry of propaganda in Vietnam provide him the actors for this?
It seems too convenient that he has this reunion on the way out, ... a parting gift?
IF - big “IF” there - he left Vietnam 17 March 1969 as orders show, he would have been in-country for a total of only 116 days since arriving 17 November 1968.
Lol! That’s only a small part of what I have stored.
Does this mean that Kerry somehow is no longer a pathetic traitor?
Thx. What a body of work! That”s incredible.
aka, "spam", according to the Putinistas, and a few other assorted morons and nut cases.
:)
Which “if” are you referring to?
Puke, puke, puke Kerry and his silver star and purple hearts.
(From a real vet)
I thought we all looked alike to Viet Cong, what is going rate to lie for the great Satan?
Date of departure, Kerry’s actual “last day in Vietnam” is unclear, although he got “orders out” on March 17 because of that third scratch (er, Purple Heart for scratches and bruises).
Arrival was November 13, departure is 17 March.
SO he made his entire political career off of 116 days.
