Conservatives press Trump to nominate Bill Pryor on Supreme Court pick

Influential conservatives are pressing President-elect Donald Trump to nominate Bill Pryor, a judge feared and disdained by liberals but loved by conservatives because of his “titanium spine,” to the Supreme Court.

Pryor is said to be on Trump’s short list to replace the legendary conservative Justice Antonin Scalia, who died almost a year ago.

Trump told reporters Wednesday that he will announce his nominee within two weeks of taking the oath of office on Jan. 20.

Conservatives want an intellectual heavyweight to fill Scalia’s shoes and fulfill Trump’s promise made during last year’s campaign to nominate a justice “in the mold of Scalia.”

“The person who would mostly likely be my top pick would be Bill Pryor,” said John Malcolm, director of the Edwin Meese III Center for Legal and Judicial Studies at the Heritage Foundation, who has had several conversations with Trump’s transition team. He described Pryor as an outstanding public servant who “calls it like he sees it” and won’t bend to public pressure.

“He has a titanium spine,” he added.

Pryor, however, would spark strong resistance from Democrats, who repeatedly filibustered his nomination to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals a decade ago. The impasse was broken only after then-Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) threatened to change the rules to strip the minority of the power to filibuster judicial nominees.

Well, then, there’s the solution.

William Pryor is an excellent choice for the Supreme Court.

Ted Cruz should be at the helm helping Trump on SCOTUS picks.

He must be great.

Here’s my prediction ... If Pryor is nominated, the left will dig up the unproven articles floating all over the internet that a young Bill Pryor posed nude for a gay magazine ( Google “Bill Pryor Posed Nude” ).

He’s 54. Too old. We need judges in their 40’s only. We need the Supreme Court for 40 years because there is NO guarantee that we will have the Senate forever. We need to THINK!!!!!! So sick of picking inappropriately. Republicans have ZERO long term strategic planning. So sad.

Bill Pryor is an acceptable choice based on his respect for the Constitution and for the laws as written.

Age should be a factor in this decision. We need someone old enough to have a track record, so we know whether they really believe the Constitution means what it says. But we also need someone young enough to serve for at least two or three active decades on the bench. Bill Pryor is at the upper end of the acceptable age window (I’d put the cutoff at 55), but he is within that window and not too old.

Pryor is 54? Relatively young for an SC justice, if he can be a strong and reliable conservative opinion on the court for the next 3 decades, I’m for it.

I looked at both photos. The noses are different. Also, the boy parts his hair on the right side and the judge parts his hair on the left. Try changing the part of your hair and you will see that it does not work at all!

Why would someone posing nude in a gay magazine upset a liberal? That should earn points from them.

If Hillary had won it would’ve been Merrick Garland or someone even worse.

Maybe. But the good news is that the liberal media is so discredited that no one of consequence will believe it.

I’m sure they’ve also got several females waiting in the wings ready to claim sexual assault/harassment/misconduct, etc. That wll go nowhere as well.

You are correct. Lets not let politics keep us from thinking long term. Also the Republicans need to be willing to change the rules on the Nuclear Option to include the Supreme Court now they are in charge. Remember the Nuclear Option came about because of the Democrats wanting their way,now it is the turn for Republicans.
