ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on his nomination to be secretary of state in the Donald Trump administration.
Best wait for Senate confirmation vote until after swearing in of Trump; don’t want Biden casting a deciding vote if there is a tie.
IIRC, this morning on Fox, someone (maybe Napolitano) said there is no vote until after Trump officially is inaugurated.
Neo, that was more my question...how many R and D’s are on THIS committee? Who are they and what does the final vote look like at this point...’in this ‘committee’...
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee, which consists of 19 Senators
Tillerson must be approved by 10 members of the committee in order to even have a vote on the Senate floor; if a majority of committee members oppose him, he will not be the next secretary of state.

Tillerson says no regrets giving up previous work and lifestyle; those were selfish reasons. His only reason for going forward is to represent the American people.
He and Rubio apparently. Corker otoh I’ll give props to. He has corrected the record with these hypotheticals one being Rubio’s allowing Tillerson to clarify statements if he had classified material.
Corker appears to want to be the fair one in the room
He’ll get Corker and Johnson the way things are going so far
In my opinion, there few if any in the Senate that can meet the measure of Mr Tillerson.
He is CEO of Exxon.
His corporation is greater than most nations...... he runs it
He is real presidential timber unlike the balsa Hillary Clinton
You say 19 members, but list 21?
Very impressive man and we will be lucky to have such a patriot in charge of foreign affairs.
I’m counting challenged....;)
Frankly, if shitstains like Limp Dick Marco result in Tillerson not being confirmed, I’d just leave the post empty until they decide to confirm him, and I would further fire everyone currently there.
I wouldn’t name anyone else.
Understood. If 21 would need 11.
From what we’ve seen of Tillerson this morning, he’s a shoo-in.
I wish I could share your confidence. At least one Pub (Rubio) is likely to vote against him. I’m sure the Dems will vite in lockstep against him.
With so many high ranking government officials in the room, I assume there is a significant amount of security. You can't just walk right in there off the street. That being the case, whoever pulled the right strings to get the protesters in there needs to be exposed so the public can see who is really orchestrating this.
My Enviro-Rat Senator Udall up now. Implying Tillerson might give preference to Exxon-Mobil in responding to phone calls. Tillerson says he won’t take these or any of these types of calls. Udall now giving the Environutter point of view on climate change. Tillerson now saying he continues to support his previous statements on climate change, including a carbon tax. He acknowledges his views might be different from Trump’s.
WWIII would be very profitable for some powerful people - the types who buy politicians.
Tillerson was saying, properly, that he did not have the actual definition of a ‘war crime’ and thus, could not answer the question.
He didn’t have all the facts.
He doesn’t have the relevant rule of law.
He won’t draw conclusions.
Baffling to the democrats.
Tillerson is the adult in the hearing room. Answers correctly phrased, on-point mostly or appropriately diplomatic when required.
Rubio was a childish jerk and his responses to Tillerson’s answers were like a child whining when he doesn’t get the answer he wants from a request to his parents.
