Yesterday I sat through what could be very generously called a neighborhood meeting near where I live. A new Goodwill Boutique (higher end Goodwill) is set to open in center of town, and a spokesperson was going around promoting it to neighborhood associations.
In educating us on what Goodwill does, the spokesperson volunteered that the money generated from sale of donated items drives their job training program.
All good, until . . .
He then volunteered that of the 5000 trained locally last year and placed in jobs, 1800 were Syrian refugees.
Since I'm in the People's Soviet of Washington, this bit of news was met with approval.
I, however, made it my business to come here and distribute the information as widely as possible. This information is first hand, from somebody in Goodwill authorized to let this information go, and was witnessed by 30 other people.
I was floored.
Oh, and he made sure - by way of competitive differentiation - to inform us Value Village does NOT use their money this way.
I suspect, but cannot prove, that there are several major churches that have taken federal money washed through other groups to settle refugees. One locally just added a spiffy new addition, though they had chronic operations budget issues.
Common knowledge
We give a LOT to Goodwill every year. No more. I’ll take it all to the dump before I clothe terrorists.
Not to me. News to me.
Back in the day,you could go antiquing at a Goodwill and find some good stuff.
My Dad got alot antiques from Goodwill, called him about my find,he said I paid to much;)
The Goodwill Store just off the campus of Iowa State University gets all the used computers from the university. I used to buy ‘boxes” for $99 and install all my favorite hardware “goodies” to bring them up to date.
Their regular clothing is also insanely overpriced.
Thankfully our Salvation Army, and Bible Mission Thrift stores, has good merch at bargain prices.
I haven't yet heard anything bad about them.
WOW! That’s amazing to hear. I’m sure Madistan does this as well.
I’m a St. Vinnie’s Girl.
Yes, it’s human trafficking using our tax dollars to import them and pay a church organization to “settle” them.
Our tax dollars to fly them here.
Then using our tax dollars to give them welfare and healthcare. And train them. And support them in prison when they commit crimes, etc. But then none of those latter things are the church’s problem.
I was at the local Goodwill a few years ago and observed (with morbid fascination) a female employee digging deep in her nose , working to extricate an apparently firmly embedded booger. After she finally found it she rolled it into a ball between two fingers and then flicked it over the clothing rack.
I couldn’t get out of there fast enough, used baby wipes on all the kids’ hands once we got out.
I called to speak to a manager when I got home, figured that would be something they needed to address. She was grateful and asked me describe the employee. All I could say was that she was in a burka. The manager then asked what color of burka so she could narrow it down. I’ve mostly avoided Goodwill since.
I’ll be spending what I used to donate to GW on ammo.
Thank you for that information. This will influence all my future thrift-store purchases, and charitable donations.
That’s the end of our donations and shopping.
Goodwill just got put on the ever growing ban list.
The SA seems like a good lot and not much is said about them, even less about the Salvation Navy and Salvation Air Force.

Now I only give to very small local groups. A large national charity is more likely to have its governing board taken over by elitist leftists, no matter how noble in its beginning.
Goodwill is becoming freaking overpriced! Jeans there are the same cost as at the Mall! I usually buy work shirts from Goodwill. Even the 1970s-looking shirts were over $10. Insane.
Believe it or not, there was once a Salvation Navy in the United States. This is not a joke. During the 1920s Aimee Semple McPherson managed to become the most popular radio and tent evangelist in the United States, eclipsing the popularity of Bill Sunday. Part of McPhersons appeal was her ability at true showmanship. She even had some 1920s automobiles converted over to boat/automobile hybrids, where McPherson would dress as a navy captain and her co-workers as sailors. McPherson was also the founder of the Foursquare Gospel Church as well. But, her showmanship may have been too much when she was later caught up in a scandal where she was charged with faking her own kidnapping as a publicity stunt, and some claim to take time away for an abortion carrying the baby of her lover. Evidence suggested she vacationed in a cottage, which was far from being kidnapped in Mexico as she had claimed. She was in remarkable good health after her claimed ordeal as well, further raising suspicion that she faked the entire incident. There were court hearings and other fallout, until a prosecutor eventually dropped charges, but McPherson never really recovered from the scandal, and the Foursquare Gospel Church sought to seek an identity outside of the controversial evangelist.
So, there is now conclusive proof that a Salvation Navy once existed. So what about a Salvation Air Force? Well, that one doesnt appear to have happened quite yet
.
Same here. Last time though for no reason I called Salvation Army. They received a dining room table and chairs worth about $2k. Glad I did it now.
