I have been posting the same thought as you. The luggage claim area is accessible to any person from outside the airport.
In fact just last month that is where we met our 2 daughters arriving in Florida on flights, for Christmas holidays. I could have carried an arsenal of guns there if I was a bad actor, since that is not a secured area.
My whole point is, this whole issue about checking guns on flights is redundant. Just to be clear, I am 100% against passengers having guns in their carry on baggage. The checked bags are stored in the cargo area which is not accessible to anyone during the flight.
Hope I didn’t miss rbg81’s point, but I agree with you entropy12.
I’m comfortable with things as they are, so luggage should be okay for weapons in the cargo hold, since anyone can enter the luggage claim area with concealed carry.
Prior to the checkpoints on the other end, I don’t think things need to change. I could be persuaded that anyone entering a terminal building should have to be checked first.
That isn’t a top priority for me now. I suppose it could become one. After an incident on the other end, perhaps that could too, and that would compromise the inclusion of guns in luggage.
