DETROIT The Bronco is back!
And so is the Ranger.
Ford announced on Monday at the Detroit Auto Show that it will launch a new Ranger small pickup in 2019, followed by a Bronco SUV based on it in 2020.
The news comes several months after the plans were unofficially revealed through comments made by UAW workers who will be building the trucks at Fords Michigan assembly plant -- home to the original Bronco from 1966-1986.
That's not all: Ford F-150 Diesel coming in 2018
The factory was at the center of controversy recently when President-elect Donald Trump criticized Ford for moving production of its Focus cars built there today to a new facility the automaker planned to build in Mexico. Ford has since decided to scrap the new plant, and will instead expand an existing one in Mexico to accommodate the Focus production.
The Ranger was last offered in the U.S. in 2011, but a new version of it has been sold overseas ever since. The Bronco was put out to pasture in 1996, two years after one took part in the infamous O.J. Simpson low speed police pursuit through Los Angeles.
Ford didnt offer any technical details or images of the vehicles, but suggested that the Bronco will offer serious off road capability.

What do you "pick up" in a pickup that small?
Yeah, with golf clubs, but you could only drive it at night in your backyard
resembles and International Scout
A Ranger with a little Yanmar Diesel would be awesome! Probably get 60 MPG
Interesting. It’s kinda difficult to keep up with FMCs history of diesel engines.
I wonder if safety standards killed the small pickups. My recollection was Consumer Reports really trashed their record. You would think that is something that could be fixed, however.
Japan has some really small pickups that remind me of the Willy’s 150. Japan has a property tax that increases as the vehicle gets older so someone was importing 5 year old ones but the EPA stopped them.
All I can say is, you lucky duck, you!
Diesel just makes sense to me in trucks of any size, especially now that they’re better behaved. Greatly improved towing capacity, fuel economy and longevity. I marvel at the lack of smaller diesels for even full size trucks, and certainly for midsize. They’ve been protecting their cash cows, Ford especially. I guess I can’t blame them, but the market’s catching up to them. A market left unserved will be filled by somebody eventually and that eventuality has arrived, so they’re throwing in the towel and bringing the Ranger back. Hopefully, with the 4, 5 and even 6 cal. diesels available in other markets.
I’m with you 100%!
Will they name it after Bronco Bama?...............
You are SUCH a TEASE! LOL
That will be the self-driving version................
Unless Im mistaken, no one makes small pickups for the U.S. market anymore.
You are right. The all go to the middle east for some reason..................
You can also buy those all day long in Mexico and central America, Options include the four door cab and small efficient diesel.
I spent some months trying to find one or at least the cab on this side of the Rio Grande without luck.
My fondest memory of a Ford Bronco was when a buddy of mine used his to yank my big old Cadillac out of a snow drift.
They’re not old enough yet to legally import used.
What do you “pick up” in a pickup that small?
Redneck chicks................
Does anyone make a pickup that a person can get in with muddy shoes and dirty clothes without worrying about damaging the interior?
Yes, for fleet sales. Good luck finding one at a dealer, though.
Substitute the rebel flag and I see our future here in some parts of the South.
