DETROIT (AP) -- Fiat Chrysler will add three new Jeeps to its lineup including a pickup truck as it invests $1 billion in two U.S. factories, furthering its effort to increase production of hot-selling SUVs and pickup trucks and get out of producing small and midsize cars. The expansion will create 2,000 new jobs.
The Italian-American automaker said Sunday it will modernize a factory in the Detroit suburb of Warren, Michigan, to make the new Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer large SUVs. A factory complex just south of there in Toledo, Ohio, also will get new equipment to make the new pickup. The company wouldn't provide details of the new products, but said the factory work would be done in 2020.
Consumers worldwide have gravitated toward SUVs and trucks while turning away from passenger cars. Last year in the U.S., car sales fell 7 percent while truck and SUV sales rose 8 percent.
Last year, FCA announced plans to stop production of the slow-selling Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200. Factories that make those products in Sterling Heights, Michigan, and Belvidere, Ill., will get new trucks and SUVs as FCA searches for an automaker that would build small cars under contract.
The factory upgrade in Warren also would allow the plant to make heavy-duty Ram pickups that now are produced in Saltillo, Mexico. But FCA would not say if it has plans to shift production to the north.
Producing vehicles in Mexico and shipping them to the U.S. has become a thorny political issue with the election of Donald Trump as president. Trump has criticized Ford, General Motors and Toyota for building small cars in Mexico and shipping them across the border. He has threatened to impose a big border tax on the companies.

Just south of there in Pueblo they will have a jobs rush related to the steel plant, especially due to the border wall. Trump won Pueblo county, he can turn the southern part of the state red.

Be nice to see that turned around.
My 2016 Honda Pilot is quicker 0-60 than virtually ANY 60’s muscle car.
It’s quicker to 60 than our ‘71 Mercedes 300 SEL 6.3 was.
Oh, it can go around a corner, too.
It’s no match for my BIL’s 650 Shelby Mustang though...except in the snow.
:-)
Yes I know about Edorado. It is unlikely that he threw himself to his death but that was the finding. He was a Muslim.
I was couching my comments in Swift like satire.
Muslims are trying to influence industry and our culture with their money and corporate influence. That may have helped to cause Edoardo’s predemise as the primary Agnelli heir.
For one, I want to drive a Jeep Jinnster! Bring them on!Market them in Riyadh!( Grin)
I think, from the little I have seen of him and read about his behaviour, he was a pedo and probably thought in Iran where the ayatollah mouth-kiss boys in public, would be a great place to live. That’s what I think.
And when islam didn’t turn out to be the pervert’s paradise he was searching for, he gave up the search and ended it all.
Because no convert to islam could possibly be so mentally ill as to commit suicide...whereas as we know, he had to BE mentally ill to consider that religion as a way of life to start with.
No loss. And the jooooos are used to getting the blame for everything.
Give the ladies a black garbage bag to wear and some signs, and away they go...
Soooo...I guess people aren't falling for that global warming BS anymore.
Yes , thats the dynamic.
Few know just how insidious the Arab conquest is. They pretend to insinuate themselves into corporate board rooms, but of course, the jooooos work to expose and stop them!
Allahwahoo Stockbar!
The value of old CJ's has just been going crazy as of late.
Jobs like these produce multiple spin-off jobs each.
I had to look up the times for your Pilot... no doubt that is a quick bugger. But I have a few counter points.
First, your statement depends entirely on your definition of a muscle car. I like to use the 1964 GTO standard: an intermediate size car body with a full size car engine. Using that standard, then no, your Pilot is not quicker than virtually any 60’s muscle car. But if you consider something like a 1968 Charger with the base 2-bbl 318cid engine that can be found in the compact car bodies as well a “muscle car,” then your statement is true.
Second, 0-60 times aren’t a great way to compare the acceleration of cars since traction is such a huge component from a dead stop, particularly for rear wheel drive muscle cars. (I assume your Pilot is AWD.) Once these cars are rolling, a Pilot isn’t going to out accelerate any true muscle car. I’d like to see the rolling 5-60 times or a highway ramp 30-70 times.
Third, I prefer quarter mile times for comparison. Takes some of the traction bias out of it, and puts horsepower on the table.
The AWD 2016 Pilot shows 0-60 in 6.6 seconds (6.7 w/ TC on) and 1/4 mile in 14.8 @ 92.9 (14.8 @ 92.6 w/TC on) according to Edmunds
Here’s a comparison of real muscle cars from various magazines at the time (imagine if they had modern tires):

Finally, yes I’d imagine your Pilot would start leaving muscle cars behind on any track with curves. And don’t forget how much better the brakes are on your Pilot.
I recall one day driving with the family in our 6.3.
My father was in the passenger seat and my brother and mother were in the back seat.
We were on the highway near Portland, OR and a Boss 302 mustang came up alongside of the passenger side of the Mercedes.
They were punching the throttle and trying to show us ‘how fast’ their Mustang was.
My father never looked at the greasers next to us but simply said: ‘Waste ‘em.’
At 60 MPH I downshifted the the transmission (auto) two gears and punched it. The tires smoked and the Mustang never had a chance.
I did about a mile or so hitting 120 MPH prior to my Mother’s input...
It was fun.
I never was into muscle cars, but my BIL has a 650 Shelby Mustang and it’s wicked fast. His uncle had a ‘69 Boss 409 Mustang that I saw once. less than 2,000 miles on it and he sold it for $250,000 some years ago.
I do have respect for the muscle cars.
Headin’ out soon in the Pilot with 4 Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8’s on it...it’s an amazing thing on the snowy roads here at zero degrees in Montana.
Best to you today, FRiend.
