In Break With Precedent, Obama Envoys Are Denied Extensions Past Inauguration Day
NY Times ^ | Jan 5, 2017 | JULIE HIRSCHFELD DAVIS

President-elect Donald J. Trump’s transition staff has issued a blanket edict requiring politically appointed ambassadors to leave their overseas posts by Inauguration Day, according to several American diplomats familiar with the plan, breaking with decades of precedent by declining to provide even the briefest of grace periods.

The mandate — issued “without exceptions,” according to a terse State Department cable sent on Dec. 23, diplomats who saw it said — threatens to leave the United States without Senate-confirmed envoys for months in critical nations like Germany, Canada and Britain. In the past, administrations of both parties have often granted extensions on a case-by-case basis to allow a handful of ambassadors, particularly those with school-age children, to remain in place for weeks or months.

Mr. Trump, by contrast, has taken a hard line against leaving any of President Obama’s political appointees in place as he prepares to take office on Jan. 20 with a mission of dismantling many of his predecessor’s signature foreign and domestic policy achievements. “Political” ambassadors, many of them major donors who are nominated by virtue of close ties with the president, almost always leave at the end of his term; ambassadors who are career diplomats often remain in their posts.

Look at the military. Obama made the same so called ‘terse statements’ one at a time over 8 years concerning firing of miliarty leaders and replacing them with PC social transformation types.

The political class is going apoplectic with the reality that a hard ass businessman is going to be in charge. A refreshing change, that is long past due!

It does two things - it ensures they are gone when he begins (officially) and it keeps them too busy to do any more damage in the form of Obama’s petulant and spiteful flailing about.

Excellent move! Obama has wreaked enough havoc in his final two months. There’s absolutely no reason to allow his toadies to continue it past his departure.

This is actually a very important, “business is *not* as usual” statement. It is very rare for a POTUS to “hit the ground running” with appointments, like President Trump is doing. Often lesser appointments are back-burnered while they throw together a list of who can fill them, after inauguration.

This means that President Trump intends his administration to be mostly staffed asap, so they are ready to act.

“Considering obama has taken to salting the land on his way out”

Exactly, get these reprobate obama minions out now,

Same goes for the State department, CIA and any court appointees, fire them all, Clinton and Obama did this but the NWO globalist Bushs did not, now we know why, because they wanted them there.

Do not leave these treacherous vipers in their nests,

Many of obama’s ambassadors did not even speak the language of the country that they were assigned. China lambasted us over the guy who we assigned.

Should I call my doctor if the winning lasts for more than four years?

*********************************************************

I think it’s being called a “Schadenboner” these days - no medical treatment necessary. If you think you’re getting tired of all the WINNING & can’t take it any more, just keep a picture of Granny Pickles/Cankles (the bullet we dodged via Trump) handy for just this purpose & any excessive WINNING issues will subside almost immediately.

Whatever.

They have embassies in the US, we can communicate through them just fine.

Having no one in those countries is far preferable to leaving a bunch of political hacks and moonbats in place, who would likely do their level best to trip up the new President.

Then, of course.....there's Twitter.

The actual medical term is “schadentumescence”, and yeah, it’s awesome.

I didn’t know it was possible, at my advanced age, to feel this way!

Spare me the drama. I'd be thrilled to be the Ambassador to Germany, to return to a place I've always thought of as my second home. I lived in Traben-Trarbach, a lovely town on the Mosel River. During my last two years, I was able to speak the language without an accent, though I won't say I was fluent.

I made many more friends in Northern Germany, during a 90 day TDY at a German antiaircraft range. I'd usually head up there during the very few long weekends I had.

I'm a grizzled veteran of nearly 100 weinfests. During my last year in Germany, it was expected that I would arrive for work on Tuesday with a mild case of alcohol poisoning...I learned the best time to go to a weinfest was on Mondays, after the tourists left, and the town folk let their hair down.

My first appointment in the morning was with the Battalion Commander, to whom I would give an after action report of the festivities (he was always looking for new places to take his wife). What a great time!
