Scuttled Ford plant has Mexico fearing more under Trump
AP ^

Posted on 01/04/2017 1:21:47 PM PST by springwater13

"Mexico loses thousands of jobs with no word on a clear strategy for confronting the next U.S. government which has presented itself as protectionist and, especially, anti-Mexican," the paper wrote. "Trump will try to recover as many U.S. companies that have set up in Mexico as possible. He will try to make them return at whatever cost, through threats or using public resources."

"Ford's decision is indicative of what awaits the economies of both countries," the daily La Jornada said. "For ours a severe decrease in investment from our neighboring country, and for the U.S. a notable increase in their production costs."

Hope said more decisions like Ford's are likely to come. And while the loss of a single planned plant probably does not fundamentally change the U.S.-Mexico economic relationship, "it certainly shows that the idea that the status quo was entrenched was false."

"This should put us on notice that when he says that he wants to renegotiate NAFTA, he means it," Hope said.

Unfortunately, many of our fellow FReepers act like blind sheeple, which is what got us into this mess to begin with.

It's the honeymoon phase, Jim 0216. I know us FReepers can identify dirty laundry when we see it - not many here that wish to identify as sheep.

Keep up the good work!

You come on here bashing Trump with ridiculous spin . Trump is just reversing what corrupt politicians have done for decades(send our companies overseas) to destroy America.

Trump doesn't deserve your lies and spin and slander .you are just a liar and you don't deserve Trump and all the good he is doing you deserve Obama’s burger flipper economy and socialism to follow

Well thanks for the encouragement and I too am enjoying this Trump “honeymoon”. But electing a political officer is like making a treaty with a potentially dangerous foreign country. You’ve just given the guy power over you and your money - so, as Reagan said, you trust but VERIFY.

Also Trump isn’t the end, it is only the beginning. Our goal must be to recover America as a Free Constitutional Republic which means at some point dismantling the 80%-80% portion of the feds. I say, start now honeymoon or no honeymoon. I like Trump, but I have no illusions about the federal government who is NOT our friend and was never created by the Constitution to be such.

America is about WE THE PEOPLE, not the federal government, “our guy” in office or anything else.

Cheers.

You’re as bad as Obama with his unsupported accusations about the election being hacked by the Russian. All allegations followed by condemnation. NO PROOF, NO EVIDENCE.

Go away.

Welcome to reality Nieto. The years of fast track border crossings and money being thrown your way to bail Mexico out of what should have been a long overdue financial meltdown and get out of jail free deck of cards on illegal US immigration is being changed. You will have to work with us or get hammered. With Trump holding the reins, and the possible opening up of Alaskan and Canadian oil fields, Mexico can lose its cash cow of oil sales with us.

Thee’s a new sheriff in town and he will play by the rules.

Duh...yeh. A free trade agreement that runs 5,000 pages is not free trade. It’s managed trade that benefits specific companies, banks, politicians, investment firms and individuals.

You don’t need third world labor to make a nice profit.

No, you just need to locate your plants in "right to work" states.

Agreed.

I almost threw up at my wife’s sister’s Thanksgiving dinner when one of the in law’ brothers told me he was making 150k moving boxes on the docks.

He was 48. Had seniority. That’s like having seniority to make burgers at McDonald.

And if they don't rehab, they can get wasted for cheaper, thus diminishing the market for the drug smuggling cartels.

What's not to like?

Demands!

Unfortunately some, or many, of our country’s population are hooked on drugs, like nicotine!!

As long that exist, drugs will flow into our country, it’s all a question of demands. NO demands, NO drug trafficking and making “free” money on it. It’s that simple !!!

“It’s unconstitutional to tweet? Because Trump hasn’t done anything other than that so far. Why are you holding your musket ready to fire? “

He sounds suspiciously like a Cruzer! It’s one thing to expect that the RATs will be ready fire aim already even though Trump is still a private citizen, but it’s quite another to hear a “supporter” utter these words when there is absolutely nothing substantive to complain about yet.

“Had Mexico not exported its surplus population to US for decades, the whole issue would never had arisen.”

These Castiliano Caudillos who have run Mexico from it's inception have considered their swarthy citizens to be “the hired help.” When they have too many, they just tell them it's time to go to the US. We should no longer be their overpopulation "safety valve!"
