In general, I prefer to comment without reading the story; it’s a FR tradition. However, I read the details (in the article and in The Lancet), and the excerpt looks accurate. They had enough data to conclude that this vaccine provides very substantial protection against the strain of Ebola observed in this most recent outbreak.
This paves the way to weaponize Ebola.
If only we were vaccinated against Obola 8 years ago.
Which official(s) at the FDA had to be paid off for the fast-tracking? Audits should be conducted upon all the officials in all the agencies who can kill a business by slowing down or stopping their efforts to be profitable, to see how many and who are living beyond their means. That includes building and health inspectors and enforcers of all those piddling regulations.
I know this sounds cynical, but isn’t it funny that finding a vaccine for ebola wasn’t a priority until it made its way to the US?

Nope. The only places where Ebola normally breaks out are mired in 10th century medicine. Big incentive, no ability.

Yes. And no. If the WHO, CDC, and the West in general have a vaccine, no one else can effectively weaponize Ebola to do more than kill a few tens of thousands and make the West VERY angry. The West would not use Ebola as a weapon even in the worst of circumstances; we have safer ways of wiping out cities and countries if we wanted to.
It became a priority when DoD saw it as a threat to forces in Africa. DoD responded with loads of funding for new diagnostics, therapeutics, and the vaccine. BTW, the vaccine was 100 percent effective during trials in Africa.
AND... obama field tested them in the US, so we know they work.
