The ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee warned that if President-elect Donald Trump tries to reverse the Obama administration's latest sanctions against Russia, Congress will have a "vigorous" response.
Rep. Adam Schiff of California said he thinks Congress may actually want to strengthen Russian sanctions.
"You're going to see Democrats, and Republicans like [John] McCain and [Lindsey] Graham, and others come together with a strong sanctions package because frankly even though what the administration did was more than symbolic -- it was very meaningful -- it is not enough to deter Russia," Schiff told ABC News Chief White House correspondent Jonathan Karl on "This Week."
The White House announced Thursday that the U.S. is expelling 35 suspected Russian intelligence operatives and sanctioning five Russian entities and four individuals in response to an alleged cyberattack that the U.S. says was intended to interfere with the 2016 election.
Asked by Karl how Congress would react if Trump reverses the sanctions after he takes office, Schiff said the reaction would be "even more vigorous, I'm convinced, in favor of stronger sanctions against Russia."

Every week it’s one terror attack after the next from migrants. Yet these assholes are trying to demonize Russia. People aren’t stupid and know what the real threat to our democracy is and it’s not the “Russians hacking” emails.
Let them keep talking to each other and we’ll keep voting. Their party has almost been decimated since Obama. Yet they refuse to give up their nonsense. I understand, they’re getting a lot of cash to hold onto their globalist, one world, border-less countries policy. It’s all about the money trail. A lot of people benefit from what we see happening around the world in places like Germany.
Since it never went though congress in the first place what does he think congress can do about it?
Good luck now, that Tom Cotton has said sanctions should be stronger,
Yeah, defend the dump of Russia at any cost, it’s common here,
Institutionalized doping in the Olympics team, people dying from drinking bath oil, high aids rate, planes that crash, burning bibles, invading Christian nations.
Oh, but the Kremlin is the defense of Western civilization, never mind, they too could be overrun with Muslim demographics. http://www.danielpipes.org/blog/2005/08/predicting-a-majority-muslim-russia
Waiting to see Senator Tom Cotton trashed too by Yahoos.
Congress can expect a vigorous house cleaning if they keep playing their idiot games.
We simply MUST find the people who hacked Hillary’s crowd and start a thermonuclear war with them - So that hundreds of millions of people will die a horrible death!!! - John McCain/Lindsey Graham/joined at the hip
uniparty strikes again.. they are not for America
“Sanctions against Russia are way down on the list of things to reverse. You Lilliputians can puff out your chests about that if it gives you solace.”
A classic neocon response.
Neocons believe the most essential position of any and every administration is the aggressive effort to diminish Russia. Above all else. And in perpetuity.
Says you.
Isn’t Schiff a G. D> democrat ,,, I thought they lost their vigor in the Last CRUSHING ELECTION..
Schiff is a Schmuck.
LOL Graham and McCain are Democrats in essence, so this is nothing. I wrote those two morons off a long time ago. Ryan and McConnell are the ones we have to worry about now.
Ignore beadcounter. I swear that A-hole either works for Linda Graham or John McCain.
A full swing with his purse.
“I guess they have polls showing them its working”
Democrats in cahoots with Big Data have created an AI Bot.
This Bot is whats making all these incredible decisions and writing these crazy talking points.
And they all move in unison.
And they all speak in common themes.
And none can figure out why its not working.
Because they have ceded all independent thought to the Bot.
I mean, what else can it be...right?
The back story here is the Cold War between Russia and a coalition of wealthy oil states headed by Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The Arab oil states want to kill the competition and control the oil markets.
They took out Libya and Nigeria with the help of Obama and Clinton and they have been supporting and enabling Venezuela's Hugo Chavez and Maduro who's own incompetence and mismanagement killed the Venezuelan oil industry.
They have encouraged the chaos in Iraq and Syria which has killed oil production in those countries and attempt were made to gain control of the Aleppo sector so a Saudi/Qatar controlled pipeline could be built through Syria.
They have been using al Qaeda and Chechen/Bosnian Jihadi to sabotage and disrupt Russian oil production and pipelines. The Russian Ukraine intervention was, at least in part, an operation to secure Russian pipelines from attacks from Saudi Jihadi while Ukraine looked the other way.
Seems a number of American Democrat and Republican politicians have a vested interest in supporting the Arabs against the Russians.
These same Americans were also backers of the destabilization operations in Libya, Iraq, Syria and other rivals.
The Russian hacking is a false story, but if we are looking a nefarious foreign manipulation and influence peddling , we may wish to look first at the some of the members of our bought and sold Senate and Obama Administration..
The US had 20,000 nuke warheads in that era.
9,000 of them on intercontinental delivery systems.
Tome Cotton will shortly reverse positions.
Where is the proof?
Media has become democrat lap dogs.
If they are Intel ops don’t we lose our own Intel be pointing them out?
Yeah, me and the vast majority of the American people.
And the vast majority of us don’t run a rinky dink blog that spouts neocon BS with every sentence.
Oh, and Tom Cotton is John McCain’s hand picked member of the Armed Services committee and a neocon through and through.
It is not possible to be an America first patriot and a neocon at the same time. Ultimately, neocons do not place America first. Never have.
