A tweet from conservative media icon Matt Drudge's verified account Thursday night appeared to accuse the government of interfecing with his website, thedrudgereport.com, just hours after the Barack Obama administration announced new sanctions against Russia over election hacking.
"Is the US government attacking DRUDGE REPORT? Biggest DDoS since site's inception. VERY suspicious routing [and timing]," the tweet to his 457,000 followers read. It was unclear if the account had been hacked. There were no other tweets on the account.
A large-scale distributed denial of service attack, or DDoS, can cause major Internet disruptions. In the past, such attacks have shut down major websites such as Twitter, Spotify, Netflix, Amazon, Tumblr, and Reddit. The attack sends a server so many illegitimate requests that it can make it hard for real requests to get through, effectively shutting down the site.
Drudge Report was down briefly around 7 p.m. EST, but working hours later. The top headline read: "MOSCOW MOCKS OBAMA 'LAME DUCK'" Meanwhile, the conservative Washington Times wrote: "Matt Drudge suggests U.S. government cyberattack on Drudge Report website. DDoS attack comes same day Obama announced countermeasures against Russia for hacking of Democrats."

Right Mr. President?
LOL!
Lets just say, anyone who trusts Obama’s patriotism, I do not trust at all. #birther
Hussein will attack Drudge Report, BUT
has failed to hack the Russians in revenge?
Typical jingoist a$$hat is the blivet Hussein.
Wow , the blivet is going down his enemies hit lists.
Be careful O ye Obama freaks, he might actually pizmo himself in the process ( one hopes.)
Ok so we have DHS trying to hack into state voter data bases, now we have then hacking into Drudge. Remind me again why we are supposed to worry about Russian hacking
DDOS attacks are not meant to “hack into” a site. It is meant to overload the server for the site, rendering it unusable.
It’s back up.
It has a link to another article that says it was off for 90 min.
Not necessarily. A DDOS attack can be used to facilitate a “man in the middle” hack for example.
Obama tells his boys to fire a few test shots at Drudge, in the same way we might tack up an old Hillary poster to sight in our rifles. Use something you don’t like and yet which will be noticed right away.
You know your stuff. Good to have someone else around here that knows this subject.
Read the report, read my take on it, and give it peer-review.
This is the kind of stuff that happens right before the coup kicks off. Shut down the information stream.
Yup. Like monkeys, they sling crap.
After repeated attempts and at last arriving on Drudge page, it is now clear why A. Mitchell has reported the truth on air about BO’Bs vendetta against the Russians. DRUDGE reported on this before the men were out of the country. A Mitchell scooped, again.
I stand corrected. Had not thought about that.
That would be a duel element attack.
DDOS and “man in the middle”.
So in other words the Drudge site became inoperable due to some cyber attack but just before shutting down completely claimed Obama did it?
Hard to follow.
