Harvard Law School has announced the launch of a series of paid fellowships for research on issues of Islamic law during the 2017-2018 academic year, aimed at influencing public discourse and U.S. policy on Sharia.
According to a recent email sent by the director of Harvard’s Islamic Legal Studies Program, Intisar Rabb, the launch of the new program comes “just in time” for the beginning of the Trump administration and has the goal of “building a community of Islamic law scholars in the academy” as well as informing “policy and media discourse about Islamic law.”

Harvard University has an endowment of over $36 billion.
In 2014, last year I could find, Harvard received $639 million in research grants from the US government.
The United States government has a cumulative deficit of $20 trillion.
Congress and the current POTUS cannot find any spending to cut in the federal budget.
It has occurred to this state university graduate:
1) Harvard can afford to fully fund its research out of its endowment.
2) Harvard’s progressive academics constantly rant about the rich paying what they can afford when it comes to taxes.
3) Harvard has the largest endowment of any university and is therefore the richest academic institution in America.
4) It is in the national interest for the United States to get its fiscal house in order and end profligate deficit spending.
5) Congress should immediately end all federal funding of research at Harvard. After, the institution is wealthy and can afford to fully fund its research activities. There is no compelling national interest in continuing federal subsidies for the rich.
Calling Mr. Trump, Mr. Ryan, and Mr. McConnell. Something for you to do after the swearing in on inauguration day. It should take less than 5 minutes to accomplish and you can immediately return to the inaugural festivities. Doing this would make a huge positive symbolic statement and be loudly applauded by the people who voted “R” in the 2016 election.
