Singer George Michael has died aged 53, his publicist has said.
The star, who launched his career with Wham! in the 1980s and later continued his success as a solo performer, is said to have "passed away peacefully at home".
Thames Valley Police said South Central Ambulance Service attended a property in Goring in Oxfordshire at 13:42 GMT.
Police say there were no suspicious circumstances. Michael, who was born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou in north London, sold more than 100m albums throughout a career spanning almost four decades.
Earlier this month it was announced that producer and songwriter Naughty Boy was working with Michael on a new album.
In a statement, the star's publicist said: "It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period.
"The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage."

How did he die? Did he get the jitterbug?
The 80s were an exciting time for me as far as music. Still enjoy a bunch of it.
The first thread is two threads below. Why post yours?
That’s what I thought. He had pneumonia a little while back.
it really doesn’t matter. It’s way too early to die.
Oh my goodness, my sister was just talking about him yesterday and was wondering what ever happened to him. He had a terrific voice. RIP George Michael.
100 million units sold on global markets. That is substantial.
A performer best known for getting arrested in public toilets?
Sounded like multiple bouts of pneumonia resulting in a tracheostomy then death. Could be end stage AIDS. Or not.
Too young, but given his propensity to exceed design tolerances with his own body, not really surprising. Perhaps he came to light at the last? One can hope.
It’s been a terrible year with the deaths of so many musical people. Including my best friend.
Been a busy day. I cannot even fathom the others who have passed this year. Their music left an indelible mark on my life. Sad. But grateful for their talent.
A few too many forays in public wash rooms scouting for casual sex partners. It’s a dangerous lifestyle choice.
One of us doesn’t have any taste. :)
i think some gays [and people who contract AIDS] take care of themselves after they have been diagnosed.
But the news had some stories where he may have been pushing it. I think you can’t still live a reckless life after you’ve been diagnosed.
I see.
Glenn Frey
He has a long history of drug use and impaired driving.
My first guess on cause of death would be accidental overdose.
Second guess - deliberate overdose.
Third guess - drug or AIDS related health issue (he almost died from pneumonia several years ago).
Fourth guess - just a bad luck, unexpected, early death.
Agreed. Per above “Death by Jitterbug”.
