Berlin terror suspect killed in shootout in Italy

Italian police killed the Islamist terrorist suspected in the deadly attack on a Berlin Christmas market, after confronting him in Milan, some 675 miles from the scene of Monday's carnage, police said.

Anis Amri, the 24-year-old Tunisian whose monstrous attack sparked a 72-hour manhunt and raised questions about Germany's inability to come to grips with radicals among its burgeoning refugee population, was killed in a wee-hours shootout in the Sesto San Giovanni district of the northern Italian city, police said.

Italian Interior Minister Marco Minniti told reporters at a news conference that the dead man was "without any doubt" Amri. Monday's attack in Berlin, for which ISIS has claimed credit, left 12 dead and more than 50 injured, including two Americans.

And ISIS is calling for revenge.

I don't understand - I thought they guys wanted to die a martyr's death so they could get their 72 virgins.

He must have traveled through most of Germany and over two international borders: Swiss or French or Austrian and then Italian to reach Milan. The airports have actual security, and the Swiss and the French tend to be on their toes these days, so my guess is he came by train through Munich into Austria, the Tyrol, and the Brenner pass into Italy. Then across northern Italy through Verona. He could do all that without having his passport checked once. Thanks, Schengen.

It’s better this way.

The German courts would have just given him 6 months probation and a stern lecture with a threat to deport hime.

Or somebody drove him and provided him with safe houses and food.

I’m sure all the security agencies are trying to trace every step and stop this guy made. It took many months, but they eventually arrested about a dozen people for the Paris attacks and several more related to the Nice attack.

The German courts would have just given him 6 months probation and a stern lecture with a threat to deport him.

Here in the U.S., he would have been sent to a "sanctuary city", been forced to apply for U.S. citizenship and register to vote as a DemocRAT.

No old martyrs, and none are imams. These imams incite from their pulpits, but they never blow themselves up.

Did he still have that black mask over his eyes, or is that just what he wears in Germany?

When we were traveling in the EU we just drove right through borders. There were no checkpoints, it’s all one union now. The guardhouses were still there, but the gates were open and no one manned the checkpoints.

Also, the German government was right to worry about attacks on Islamists, and this shootout is the proof!
