What makes the Air Force One program so costly?
The CEO of Boeing told President-elect Donald Trump Wednesday that his company can build a new Air Force One for less than originally quoted -- after Trump complained about the cost.
Earlier this month, Trump made headlines for blasting the company on Twitter for alleged cost overruns with the new fleet of Air Force One planes.
Trump called on the government to cancel the contract and called the supposed $4 billion price tag out of control.

New sheriff in town.
Winning.
I like it.
I dont think it was a priority as it protects the prez. I thought Trump was just gonna repaint Trump One LOL
It doesn’t cost $4 billion to build your larger automotive plants or steel mills. Boeing thought they had a blank check.
HA! I giggle every time I think of our new president making a deal such as this...
Gotta love him!
So why couldnt Boeing just build it cheaper without Trump having to bring heat to the subject??
This looks suspiciously like Boeing was overcharging initially, then as soon as they realize someone is actually gonna take a close look at the numbers, the cost savings miraculously appear!
Just wondering
The govt gets a pretty good portion of that 4 billion back in taxes.
So, if Trump reduces the corporate tax rates by X, Boeng should be able to drop their price by a corresponding amount and maintain the same margin.
I’m already slightly fatigued at winning.
Cutting through bloat and overspending in government for Trump is like a hot butter knife cutting butter.
Trump must have made him an offer he couldn’t refuse.
Of course they were overcharging. Every vendor who does business with our bloated government overcharges and no one says boo.
Bout time someone did! Having a business man in charge is a very good thing!
Donald wrote the book on dealing.
I hope the other people wanting to overcharge us for goods and services are sweating bullets right now! LOL!
You charge what you can get away with.
He did. This is going to be fun to watch! Heads will be spinning!
....and already are! :)
Not sure but perhaps they were the sole bidder?
I don’t believe there is another American company that builds passenger jets of that size
Actually, that’s probably not far from the truth.
Boeing would rather get 2-6% and KEEP a 3.5 billion dollar lower final cost - than lose the 4 billion dollar original that had a 20% markup when they “knew” NEITHER Hillary NOR Obola cared about the price.... which had lots of company overhead on it from other jobs.
