Wisconsin's red realignment
Washinfton Examiner ^ | 12/2016 | Salena Zito

Posted on 12/20/2016 3:20:25 PM PST by marsmanmd

Eight years ago, Wisconsin Democrats were in the catbird seat; they held the Governor's office, the majority in both chambers of the state legislature, two U.S. Senate seats, five of the state's eight congressional seats and handed Barack Obama a rousing victory in the presidential election.

So it's no wonder that Wisconsin's winning election night results for Republican president-elect Trump and U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson were a bit of a jolt to most pundits' sensibilities; for years they have believed that Wisconsin was a deeply blue state, powered by the public sector unions, that traditionally supports Democrat candidates in a big way.

It isn't.

For the past seven years, beginning with Reince Priebus taking over Wisconsin's Republican Party in 2009, the state has been anything but trending blue.

Ms Zito mentions the union issue but doesn’t mention the visuals ie so-called public servants occupying buildings and creating disturbances while having the brass neck to claim ‘I love my students’ etc.

They screamed, they chanted, they sat in, they behaved like toddlers as they always do.

In many ways it was a preview of BLM protests and the post-election nonsense. It served to desensitize the rest of the nation to such idiotic, rote picketing. It also showed that leftist protests and predictions of doom came to absolutely naught.

The Dems live by mob rule so they understandably are confused and panicked by the mob’s failure to overcome opposition.

Wisconsin has a Catholic population which is about 33% of the total, and most of these are white ethnics.

This group flipped strongly to the GOP this year and has been trending that way for awhile.

An astute observation. Perhaps that is why they reject the idea of the Electoral College (when it doesn't go their way).

Voter ID made a big difference in this election in Wisconsin.

As a former Wisconsinite, the biggest problem in the state is Madison, which is full of progressive who mistakenly think the rest of the state is just like them. (Or if not that they are hopelessly stupid and need to be educated so they will see the error of their ways. I quit going to state parks near Madison on popular weekends just to avoid these arrogant pricks. As an example, they have three times elected Paul Soglin as Mayor (currently serving) beginning in 1973. They tried electing a Governor pretty much in his image who was a collosal failure and lost to Gov. Walker, who put the state on it's present trajectory. Wisconites are smart - they understand when something isn't working it needs to go, they proved it with Tommy Thompson and Scott Walker.

I'm not sure we'll ever see the day when Madison goes even purple, but the stranglehold of the old hippie progs is lessening in the Workers Paradise.

What the race-baiting, divide and conquer Democrats has feared to so long has come to pass. Impoverished, marginalized, and harrased whites are now seeing the need to vote as a block and, at 75% of the population, will have their will and rights respected.

Welcome to the new world.

You’ve confused me.

That particular chant was by the WI electors (ie ‘our side’) directed at the crazy woman (ie ‘their side’) who kicked off during their meeting.

To be fair, I don’t approve of mindless chanting as a substitute for thought or speech or - in this case - simply frog-marching the loudmouthed harpy out of the room.

You nailed it, Bob. Madistan is Wisconsin’s, ‘Austin,’ or ‘Berkeley’ etc.

Their grip on power is lessening. They were drunk with it, showed their True Colors this past decade, and The Sheeple woke up. Thank Goodness! :)

The good news for Wisconsin is Madison is small. We used to call it “25 square miles surrounded by reality” but it’s grown since ;-) 250,000 - call it 300K with the bedroom communities surrounding. So 2/3 are liberal-prog-democrats, that is 200K votes and as has been proven in the last 4-5 elections, it can be offset pretty easily.

Unlike here in Illinois where our “Madison” (albeit Chicago is full of more traditional “gimme stuff” Democrats than progressives) has a population 10 times greater if you just count the city of Chicago, or 40 times bigger if you includes the entire Chicago MSA, which is 9.4 million. That’s just too many for the red state downstate Illinois voters to make up for. But we did get a Republican governor and Trump did win 91 out of 102 counties with 38.5% of the vote. But it’s like turning a battleship with a kayak paddle!

If Trump plays his cards right, Wisconsin will be a harbinger for the nation as a whole. The progressives over play their case by getting shrill and nutty, when they’re really just protecting their little rackets, and the politicians are just finally standing up for taxpayers and common sense.

If we clean up voter fraud, with strict voter ID, AND VOTERS ARE ACTUALLY QUALIFIED VOTERS, this is a solid red state.

The math is EXTREMELY SIMPLE in the Upper Midwest. You have states that have still not been flooded with Hispanics, and you have a relatively small number of blacks, which means that the benefit of Identity Politics was very limited.

The Dems held those states ONLY because the Republicans REFUSED to give the voters there a clear reason to vote for them. The Dems went further and further left, the Republicans essentially said: “Well, this country is going left, so we’re going along with it, just a bit slower” (both Bush’s were perfect examples of that mentality).

The Dems and the media both knew that candidate running to STOP that advance would do very, very well in that part of the country, which is why they went into a panic in 1996 when Steve Forbes started connecting with Working Class voters. Similarly in 2012 with Herman Cain. And, of course, in 2016 with Trump. They knew the Democrats DID NOT HAVE A PRAYER in that part of the country if the Republicans managed to run one of those people, so the first two pretty much self-destructed on their own (i.e., they weren’t up to the job, and of course had no money). So the Dems got their candidates - Dole in 1996, Romney in 2012, McCain in 2008, and to a lesser extent, Bush in 2000 and 2004.

For 2016, they figured they were set. They had the ENTIRE Republican Establishment convinced that they had to go hard-left on immigration (as in Gang-of-Eight) to stay viable as a national party, and the Republicans were TOO STUPID to under the demographic effect of creating 30 MILLION new (almost all) Democrat voters. The 16 announced Republicans all agreed that discussion immigration would be OFF-LIMITS in this election, or no big-donor money - this was a fact (I heard it last year on a radio interview). It really did look like the Dems/media had again neutered our party.

Then, of course, Trump stepped up.

And, to go back a bit further, note the media reaction to H. Ross Perot in 2016 - he ran as an independent to weaken Bush, but he had tons in common with Trump (wealth, populist appeal, trade policy, etc.). The media gave him a FREE RIDE, even though he reached 25% polling in a 3-way race at one point (and wound up with 21% even after self-destructing that summer). But he served the media’s purpose in defeating Bush-41. So the media/Democrats don’t really have an objection to a populist candidate, their only objections are when they are running as Republicans.

Roughly 70% of the voting electorate (and only about 60% of the population) - BUT YES - drive them too far, and they will form a block to defend their interests...and with them unified as a block, it’s GAME OVER for the Dems.

I’ve been saying the same for almost 2 years, when whites in the South went 75% to 89% Republican in 2014 (and swept everything). Republicans have a HUGE BLOCK of voters willing to support them...but they do have to step up and give those voters A REASON to vote for them. Trump did.

Now the Republicans have to LEARN FROM TRUMP and the first thing that means is telling their agnostic big-money donors to TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT - that they are going to represents other Americans, but NOT at the expense of White Americans. If they want to instead give their money to Democrats who lose (like Hillary), then so be it. We’ll just see if they are able to learn anything.

oh, fun...another opportunity to post this:

Hopefully the defeat of Tammy Baldwin will be the next thing the liberals are crying about up there. It’s been one big fail for that group after another. Don’t allow Scott Walker to become governor. Fail. Don’t allow Republicans to take control of state legislature. Fail. Recall enough GOP Senators to cause Democrats to take control of state Senate. Fail. Recall Scott Walker. Fail. Defeat Justice Prosser. Fail. Don’t let Scott Walker win re-election. Fail. Don’t let GOP keep control of legislature. Fail. Defeat Ron Johnson. Fail. Deliver Wisconsin to Hillary Clinton. Fail.
