Better ask for forgiveness than permission.
How many sanctuary cities asked for permission??
Im all for it as long as they have to drug test the Wisconsin legislation as well, state and county judges, and anyone getting a government, state, county or city paycheck.
Right. Good point.
Seems like today would be a great day to start ordering drug tests of all state employees as well as elected and appointed officials. You can have a daily lottery to pick which employees and officials shall be tested that day just to ensure no one thinks to sneak off for a weekend trip in Colorado.
Plus you’ll have a great insight into what needs to be paid attention to in processing drug tests and false positives.
As I’m pretty consistent in saying: You first, to every rule and regulation.
If this coerces just ONE person form abstaining from drugs then it is worth it.
I knew this thread would bring out the LibarTARDians.
Fixed.
Call me a cynic, but I wonder how much the drug testing labs donated to get this passed? How often will they test? What is the cost of all those millions of tests (they ain’t cheap) compared to what the state will save? Did they do a cost/benefit analysis? Will the kids of drug users keep getting food stamps if the parents are kicked off? Inquiring minds want to know.
Time for new laws.
No taxpayer in their right mind could have one problem with this. I have no idea whats wrong with you but get it fixed.
Check’m for HIV, too.
Anyone 20% overweight should not get food stamps. Weigh ‘em.
An alternative would be to give the recipients two options:
A) Receive food stamps without being subjected to drug tests. This will result in an automatic decrease of 70% from what the applicant would otherwise qualify for and will only be available for 12 months, then they’d be required to exit the program for a minimum of 36 months before being eligible to re-apply.
B) Agree to participate in the drug testing program and receive food stamps only if the test result comes back clean. Applicant must re-test a minimum of twice a year, subject to additional random tests. After 36 months the participant would be required to transition out of the program for at least the next 36 months. A dirty test will require a 36 month waiting period before being eligible to re-test and will forever ban the applicant from enrolling in the no-test program in the future.
Or something along those lines.
Have you even considered my questions? Do you have the answers? Shouldn’t they at least have an idea whether they it will save or cost money?
When bills are passed (left or right) if you look behind the scenes the motivation is usually a combination of well meaning do-gooders and someone who is going to make money off of it. It’s a good idea to ask questions.
You can look on Google and find out that a drug test costs about $42. Compare that to the monthly cost per person of food stamp benefits, $142.
In other words, preventing drug abusers from getting food stamps will save the taxpayer about $100 per month per person.
Keep in mind that the kids of drug abusers probably are not being fed properly regardless, as their parents sell food stamps for drugs.
If drug testing stops ONE person form using drugs then the cost is worth it! I have to show id to get sudafed. I have to get drug tested at my job. Drug testing people on the dole makes total sense even if it actually costs more, which I doubt, then it saves. In an ideal world after drug screening nobody would be on drugs then the cost benefit would be zero. At first some money would be saved because dead beats on drugs would be denied money but after awhile nobody would get caught or apply for money because they WANT to take drugs. There is no way to determine the benefit.
Another issue. I'd like to see Citizenship CONFIRMED as well. Non-citizens should be denied public assistance of any kind.
I wanted him to be president. he was the first to look at the others running and decide to bow out.
