He grasped that what voters cared about were the very issues politicos were disdainfully ignoring.
The American middle classes, the Chinese, and Vladimir Putin have never been convinced that Ivy League degrees, vast Washington experience, and cultural sophistication necessarily translate into national wisdom. Trump instead relies more on instinct and operates from cunning and we will soon see whether we should redefine wisdom. But for now, for example, we have never heard a presidential candidate say such a thing as We love our miners not we like miners, but we love them. And not just any miners, but our miners, as if, like our vets, the working people of our moribund economic regions were unique and exceptional people, neither clingers nor irredeemables. In Trumps gut formulation, miners certainly did not deserve to be put out of business by Hillary Clinton, as if they were little more than the necessary casualties of the war against global warming. For Trump, miners were not the human equivalent of the 4,200 bald eagles that the Obama administration recently assured the wind turbine industry can be shredded for the greater good of alternate energy and green profiteering.
Amazing article. VDH started as a #neverTrumper.
Trump has exposed the press as propagandists of the first order.
Speaking of the Chinese... I’d like to see a lot fewer Chinese coming to the US to study. Why are we educating our enemies?

Oy vey.
The guy writes about it but he still does not get it.
Trump relies on knowledge. He is not right by chance or instinct, unless you want to call years of sifting though information and learning how to quickly tell what is signal and what is noise, "instinct".
It is a talent and one that is honed very quickly in the school of hard knocks. You develop a nose like a bloodhound for BS and feel for what is true even if you can not put your finger on why you know that.
You just do. And if you sat down and thought back you would probably be able to come up with the half a dozen bits of information that has come to your attention over your life time that lead to you "just knowing" that but you probably won't do it. That is what secretaries and research guys are for. That and bringing you more data.
And I am not sure that I would call him cunning either. He is more the guy who breaks the bottle on the bar and yells, "You want a piece of me? Come and get it!"
Cunning is the wise guy who convinced the thick witted dolt that the guy with the bottle was an easy mark.
Like always with anti-trump National Review Online, an article full of condescension, imploring anti-trumpers not to be full of condescesion against Trump, oh the irony!
I wish the babbling heads at NRO eat crow everyday.
Using the term “our” is actually a Britishism. They will call their daughter “our Sheila.” Perhaps Trump picked this up from his Scottish mother.
More and more #nevertrump crew are finding religion.
I was born in Brooklyn, both parents from from Queens.
Trump is an outer boroughs guy who scored big in the city. I totally get him.
You guys who don’t, or who didn’t - enjoy the show.
Just cutting off their welfare will save more than that, and deporting them.
Then we save the cost of incarceration and crime.

A really great read by Hanson. And yes, we want a guy with balls.
Makes some good points with actual nuggets of truth to back it up. Hits closer to the mark than most of the “still don’t get it” blather that makes it to press. Bookmarking this one.
I agree but I feel her children did her in more than lack of a few billion dollars. They really did her wrong and their selfish antics utterly destroyed her career, even more so than the vicious MSM, which she showed signs of being able to eventually handle.
Right or wrong, burden of parenthood falls more heavily on the mother. Fathers don’t get blamed nearly as much when things go wrong.
Yep - his tweets offend all the right people....
