Christmas brings out the kid in all of us ... Santa Claus, presents, twinkling lights -- and the creepy Elf on the Shelf. Whose idea was it for there to be deranged-looking elves showing up and moving around your house? It would have been terrifying to me as a child! He's watching, always watching.
Snip...
2. The Elf was caught smuggling spiked Hershey's Kisses over the Candy Land border.

Elf on Shelf is conditioning our next generation for the surveillance state....
8 years ago I would have called this statement crazy.....
Today.... Not so much...
When did this “elf on the shelf” stuff begin? I remember these elf figures when I was a kid, but they were just one among many decorations. There was no story tied to them, and no one that I knew secretly moved them around to fool their kids.
My family (all generations thereof currently alive) are a bunch of sick freaks ... I think we all know better than to try playing the ‘Elf on the Shelf’ game with our kids. The smarmy little bugger would fare poorly. It would certainly have fared poorly if it had existed, and been tried, on my generation.

The Simpsons had a “Gnome in the Home”
My six year old great niece was given Elf on the Shelf. She finds it creepy and refuses to have it in her bedroom. I predict this will be a quickly passing fad.
I hope so. I didn’t realize the purpose of the creepy little elf until my granddaughter received one. Now, I know our parents used to tell us that Santa was watching and we’d better be good. But an elf in the house?? I do find this creepy. And yes, it very well could be a precursor to the surveillance state.
Cultural appropriation.

My daughter works at a store here they sell these. Some lady was complaining because they only had white ones.
I bought mine at a university book store a few years ago. They appear to be Indian (as in South Asian). Yet, all the ones I’ve seen in pictures are white. I didn’t see anywhere on the box what race they were, so how would anyone who had a particular preference get to choose?
My kids are already figuring out that the elves “move” during the night due to my efforts. I’m hoping that this will be the last year they hang out at our house. (I was going to leave them packed away this year, but the kids started asking when they were going to return, so I decided that Pearl Harbor Day was an appropriate day for them to come back.)
The customer wanted a black one, because...racism.
