WASHINGTON On Monday, 538 people will meet to determine who will be the next president.
These meetings of the Electoral College, convened in every state and the District of Columbia just shy of six weeks after Election Day, have long been little more than a formality.
But the victory of President-elect Donald J. Trump, who lost the popular vote but is projected to win the most electoral votes, has thrust the Electoral College into the spotlight once more. The conclusion of American intelligence agencies that Russia tried to intervene in the election to harm Hillary Clintons campaign has only intensified the focus in recent days.
President Obama on Friday described the Electoral College originally a compromise between those who wanted Congress to choose the president and those who favored a popular vote as a vestige. As electors gather in state capitols across the country, here is a rundown of what comes next.
Who are the electors? In short, the electors are people chosen by their state political parties to cast votes for president and vice president. Electors can be state party leaders or elected officials; sometimes they are individuals with a personal connection to a presidential candidate. Bill Clinton, for instance, is a New York elector this year.

Betting on one faithless elector in NY then.
What to expect?
Here’s what to expect in a nutshell: screaming, gnashing of teeth and tearing of hair on the part of democrats, who willl complain that it was all so unfair and Valdimir Putin elected Trump.
Meanwhile, the msm will try their best to make the same case, and report as fact all the very latest fantasy and crap supposedly put out by the CIA.
And on Tuesday, Donald Trump will still be president-elect.
Trump wins or faithless electors have started a new civil war.
Projected?
“And on Tuesday, Donald Trump will still be president-elect.”

I believe, technically, Trump is “President-elect Presumptive” until after the Monday EC vote.
Vote for Bernie, Bill. You of all people should know it's the right thing to do. Nip this craziness in the bud.
LOL! But Bill is expected to vote for Hillary anyway, isn’t he?
So if there is treachery afoot, we won’t find out until Jan 6th. We will be subject to fake news until then. Libs try to suck the joy out of those who disagree with them. I for one will not let that happen. GO TRUMP!
I would not be surprised that they finally get divorced.
The DNC is going to meme-splain it to us.
Hillary Clinton won New York. All of New York’s electors are therefore Democrat and pledged to her. I’ve encouraged Bill Clinton to vote his conscience and vote for Bernie Sanders. Other than this, what could you possibly mean? There are no Republican Trump electors in New York because he did not win the state.
He probably will.
He knows better.
I'll bet he wants to live to see another day.
They are at different stages. That one isn't quite "there".
Communist ANSWER is plotting to have protesters harass and intimidate electors in each state as they go to vote.
Thank you for the correction. I guess I jumped the gun a bit. Too eager.
In each state won by Trump, not every state.
“Thank you for the correction. I guess I jumped the gun a bit. Too eager.”

I don’t think very many people use the term anyway, so macht nichts.
There are so many opportunities for treacherous pitfalls. I really think the dark horse sleepers lie within the GOPe......There exists the very real possibility of throwing this into the House......by missing deadlines, “they” (meaning McConnell and Ryan) can subvert the whole thing.
Make no mistake, they are just as desperate as the libs....there is SO much for them to lose
They must have left off a page or two. “What to Expect” on Monday, at states’ Governor’s mansions or legislative buildings, will certainly also include
- public tantrums
- illegally blocked traffic and public sidewalks
- violent efforts directed against electors
- violent efforts directed against those officially tasked with protecting them
- violent efforts directed against anybody present expressing a differing opinion, including belief in the Constitution, the rule of law, and that the Electors should be able to do their jobs without interference
- trash. so much trash.
