Our trade surplus with Mexico turned into a deficit. It went from $885 million in May of 1994 to $6.9 billion a year later.

That NAFTA would reduce illegal immigration by raising Mexican wages and keeping them in their home country. However a peso devaluation occurred in 1994 cutting the value of their wages by 40 percent, making them far less able to buy U.S. goods. Mexicans emigrating to the U.S. actually increased 30 percent since they were looking for higher paying jobs.

Yep. Say what you will about Perot but he tried to warn us and everything he said about NAFTA turned out to be true.

Maybe so, but when it came to running for the Presidency, he choked and left a lot of supporters out on a limb.

I felt that Ross Perot was the birth of Trump-ism.

The giant sucking sound of NAFTA, as warned of by H. Ross Perot.

Sadly, today I don't think the threats to him and his family were the joke everyone said it was...

And somehow, Americans keep voting for McCain and Lindsey Graham. And they’re happy to de-industrialize the country; which has always been bizarre to me.
I just don’t get it.

Gore supposedly won the debate on NAFTA and nobody talked about it during the 8 years of W Bush.
Republicans could only offer tax cuts with nothing to offer those that don’t make enough to pay taxes (Romney’s 47%).

I would love to see these trade deficit figures broken down by industry and/or commodity.
One big reason for the growing trade deficit with Mexico has been the growth of U.S. oil imports. By the late 1990s both Mexico and Canada had surpassed Saudi Arabia as the largest foreign suppliers of crude oil to the U.S.
