Trump thought Giuliani ‘lacked stamina’ to be secretary of state

Donald Trump worried that Rudy Giuliani might lack the stamina to fulfill the duties of secretary of state, according to a report.

Once a leading candidate to be America’s top diplomat, Giuliani fell out of favor, in part because Trump began to question the 72-year-old’s fitness, according to the Wall Street Journal, which cited an unnamed transition official.

Giuliani strongly disagreed, telling the paper: “My stamina is unbelievable.”

The former mayor, who was one of the billionaire’s fiercest loyalists on the campaign trail, has said he has so far passed on two cabinet postings in the Trump administration, without specifying which posts.

At this point, what difference does it make?

I'll believe this when Trump says it.

arl295 :" I think the issue was if Rudy would agree to no lobbying for 5 years after service. I don’t think he wanted to give up that business "

I think that I read a couple of days ago that Mrs. Rudi didn't want the severe loss of income that came with the SOS job.
We all know that if Momma ain't happy, ...ain't nobody happy !

Just what I recall ..

I too noticed Rudy was with Trump on the trip to the Army-Navy game. There’s something there but who knows what it is.

That’s true for SoS. But stamina also explains why he wasn’t picked for the other slots...unless he ends up getting Agriculture or OSHA

I can see it - Rudy looks like a shadow (even with the extra chubbiness) of what he used to be. Being an effective SOS will take a toll on one.

I agree. Giuliani belongs in an office all day directing others.

This is ridiculous. It conjures visions of Trump giving his applicants a stress test and sending them to a Jack LaLanne spa for remediation.

Maybe to the general public. To some though, those who know that Rudy and Trump are not just colleagues but long term close friends, it sounds like someone who gives a friend honest feedback that is in their best interests. Something more like "Rudy, I am going to work my Secretary of State like a dog, he will be all over the planet for weeks on end. I'm worried about your health in that situation. You're too important to me personally and for the country to risk on that. I'd rather have you near me, where you can advise me and help manage the team, and stay healthy. Can you accept that?"

Rudy told us HE didn’t want the job in one of his most recent interviews, by saying that he took himself out of consideration for the job, and for that matter, any other position in the Trump administration.

And-

EXCERPT: Giuliani strongly disagreed, telling the paper: “My stamina is unbelievable.”

I was thinking the same thing. The last few times I’ve seen Rudy walking, he looked not too quick in the step, and a bit frail. I was thinking that flying all over the world at a hectic pace could be a bit much for him.

Actually, this was my first thought when he was being considered. Even before the campaign got rolling, there were several times he was on Fox and Friends in the morning and I noticed a slower, less engaged Giuliani......very normal for a person his age, however.

I don’t know....he flies all over the world, now. I tend to believe he took himself off the list, just as he said he did. He doesn’t look very healthy, but I seriously doubt Trump would have refused ANY request Rudy makes, be it, “I’d like such and such a job”, or, “ I think I’d better sit this one out”. Trump is loyal; whatever decision was made, it was Rudy’s choice.
