Actor's Take on Kennedy at Chappaquiddick - 'Ted Had a Rough Night'
newsbusters.org ^ | 12/14/2016 | Jack Coleman

Posted on 12/14/2016 7:34:00 AM PST by rktman

Daily Beast reporter Liza Foreman tells readers in her lede that she was "not all that familiar" with Chappaquiddick, the remote island where Kennedy drove off a bridge late at night with a young woman who drowned in the car while Kennedy escaped.

Kennedy failed to report the accident until the next morning and was later given a suspended sentence for leaving the scene of a fatal accident. The death of 28-year-old Mary Jo Kopechne, a campaign worker to Kennedy's late brother Robert, shadowed Ted Kennedy for the rest of his life and arguably kept him from ever winning the presidency.

Albeit without leaving someone to perish in his car while he sobered up, but I digress. Back to Clarke on the accident itself --

"It was a critical night," he added. "It was a really long night for Ted and a long day. I mean we start off from Washington, then Martha's Vineyard for the boat race. There is the beach, then the boat race, then the whole party, and then the accident, and then the whole night to the next morning. So it was a long night for Ted. Ted had a rough night."

So, I guess we can assume from the actor’s remarks that this Chappaquiddick movie will be a whitewash of “The Swimmer”?

It's amazing how the Kennedy defenders at the time forgot all about Mary Jo. They didn't give a fig about her. What was important at the time was salvaging Teddy's career and keeping alive "Camelot" at all costs. Mary Jo was expendable. Just a floozy that got in the way.

Many of the Kennedy defenders by the way were women.

I think that’s from the National Lampoon magazine.

One of my first YouTube parody songs. Yes, graphics are not the best, but I think you will enjoy the lyrics. I was inspired to do this when I was visiting my daughter in the Seattle area. She choreographed the play, and when I heard SURREY WITH THE FRINGE ON TOP, I immediately began writing the lyrics in my head.

For those who do not know, Mary Jo was in very shallow water and in an air pocket. She did not drown. She eventually ran out of oxygen and could easily have been save had the coward gotten help.

Let’s take Roosevelt off the dime and put on Mary Jo Kopechne in his place.

“He was a disgusting, reprehensible coward with not a single redeeming factor.”

On the bright side, he has been sober for 7 years.

I took a drive to the bridge to see if the “story” made sense, it didn’t. He was hammered, speeding to cross the bridge to get to the beach on the other side no doubt to spend time with Mary Jo - his lies afterward are obvious.

This was a clear case of manslaughter.

Howie Carr thinks that Fatboy was so gosh darned hammered. That he didn’t even know Mary Jo was in the back seat.
“Should a gentlemen open a car door for a lady. Or should he wait 14 hours?” The chief of the Edgartown Fire Rescue Dept. said she died in her own air pocket. He was audited by the IRS for every year following that night.

National Lampoon...however, it was based on a VW campaign that had a guy driving off something into water, and floating.

Can't remember if Ted's homicidal venture, or the ad campaign came first.

If the former, than kudos to Madison Avenue for being able to connect reality with product safety.

People don’t know this because history, as currently taught in the US, is biased and laughably selective about what is represented and how it’s represented.

Of course, students DO NOT research on their own, so even in this ‘information age’ with all data and facts readily and openly available for anyone with half a brain... these kids still know NOTHING.

THANKS NEA!!!

“Teddy would have been President in 1976 0r 1980 rather than Reagan? Cold War extended, or becomes hot?”

More likely that Ted would have capitulated to the Soviets on many important issues, especially arms control and nuclear deterrence. He tried to arrange a private meeting with Andropov, through his pal John Tunney, in 1983 in violation of diplomatic protocol and common sense.

When the bridge was being demolished, the Boston Glob ran story on people like you, site-seers.

A lot of them shaved off a splinter for a souvenir. When access was blocked off, people would take to boats to shave off the pilings.

Had I been on MV, I probably would have taken a gander as well.
