Consumers pay for Regulation (vanity)

Posted on 12/13/2016 9:16:23 PM PST by calico_thompson

I spent an hour in the dentist's chair today. He told me that OSHA field investigators check his office to determine if all of his toxic materials are properly labeled and if his equipment has the proper safety devices. He contracts with a consultant to review his office. Fines for deficiencies have grown exponentially. The regulators and consultants are ultimately paid for by the patient. Some say you can get excellent dental care in Mexico and Central America at 1/3 the cost.

These regulatory costs are likely baked into everything we purchase and do.

we have friends who receive excellent dental care in Mexico, yes, and at a small fraction of the USA prices.
up here its about $2500 for a root canal, $6000 for a single implant, $600 just to pull a tooth (doorknob and string being outdated except for Obamacare) and ...

people needing dental work should definitely check out dental tourism in Mexico

A friend had major work quote of almost $15,000 in US. He had the same work done at a quality facility in Mexico for $1,000.

I worked with a guy who needed a root canal (we worked in DC). The rates locally were outrageous. So we came to research and find out that you could fly to Costa Rica, and have the root canal done....airfare, one night in a hotel, and the work...for 50-percent of the cost of what they were going to charge in DC.

After some research, we also found a North Carolina dentist (five hours driving) who resided in some rural community and would do it for 50-percent of what the normal charge was in DC.

It always is upon the individual to do the homework and find the better deals.

The same goes for eyewear. I got the exam, 2 pairs of frames and lenses with all the coatings for under $300 in Algodones three years ago.

My new glasses cost me $600 PER LENS, plus $85 for the exam. They wanted to sell me new frames too!

I told the receptionist that it was the very last time she would see me. I can fly to AZ, rent a car, get an exam and glasses in Algodones, spend a week in a hotel in Yuma eating out 2 X daily, and still have money left over when I get back compared to buying from the local optometrist.

You don't even need to fly anywhere. Spend the $85 (mine is covered by insurance) for the exam, and ask for a copy of the prescription. You then can get mail order glasses from Canada and probably elsewhere (where you don't need a physical copy of the prescription with the order). You can get prescription glasses for as little as $20.

I even figured out how to modify the prescription so I now have special glasses for welding, computers, carpentry, etc. for only $20 each. This is especially important for me since I had a cataract removed from only one eye, so my glasses have very significant differences for each eye. BTW, the $20 mail order glasses have always been exactly right. The only problems I've had have been from $400 glasses from the US.

Despite the leftist bs all costs trickle down to the final consumer.
