An unarmed grandfather in the early stages of dementia was shot dead by police while he walked around the block near his home. Francisco Serna, 73, was hit nine times by gunfire from police in Bakersfield, California, answering a call about a man with a gun - but no weapon was recovered from the scene. He was stood in his neighbor's driveway at around 12.30am Monday morning when he was gunned down. His family said he took the late-night walks to tire himself out.

I understand the police have to be careful - but to gun down an elderly man out in the middle of the night?
Something doesn’t add up.

Yikes! What in God's name caused someone to think he was armed???

The site took forever to load and I quit after about 4 minutes .. still not loaded ... too many pictures
I don't know the story.
But I can envision ... late at night a cop or a couple of cops, yelling "halt" and an old man that maybe didn't hear them, and the cops open fire on a rambling (he wasn't running or anything, right) old man makes the Bakersfield hiring practices suspicious.

"Something doesnt add up."
I'm thinking there's a lot more to the story than isn't being reported here.
To: wyowolf
Yikes! This makes no sense.

Another example of just how low the standards are to hire police these days. Go back ten years and see if the higher standards weren’t higher and police thought before blasting away like Wyatt Earp.

To: wyowolf
Good question.
Internal Affairs is going to be looking at the shooting. One officer was involved.
He may or may not face criminal charges but his life is already ruined.
Shooting someone’s grandfather is not a mark you want to have on your police record.

Im not any kind of cop basher you don't have to be a cop basher to count the number of bad shootings that have occurred over the years, and the number of times the bad shooter walks away without any repercussions. You have every right to ask "why".
