DEC 9 2016 Is Trump Softening on Young Immigrants? Senators Hope So, Offer Bill by SUZANNE GAMBOA
WASHINGTON - Seizing on President-elect Donald Trump's "encouraging" comments in a Time interview, two U.S. senators are pushing for a stopgap protection from deportation for young immigrants who arrived or stayed in the country illegally as children.
Senate Minority Leader Dick Durbin, D-Ill., and Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., partnered to introduce legislation Friday that would protect the young immigrants should Trump repeal the executive action before Congress takes up immigration reform. The protection would be temporary to keep them from being deported while Congress decides what it wants to do on immigration
Since this congressional session is winding down, with the House gone for the year and the Senate staying to wrangle over a spending bill, not much is likely to happen this year.
Durbin said the bill, dubbed the BRIDGE Act, will be re-introduced when Congress convenes next year. Sens. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, and Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., are the cosponsors on the bill so far.
Some 744,000 young immigrants are working and and are protected from deportation through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA. President Barack Obama created the program in 2012 through executive action. But during the campaign Trump said it was one of the actions he'd repeal.
Many young immigrants with DACA have been fearful of what that would mean for them since they turned over their identity information to the government for the DACA protection.
But Durbin said Friday he's encouraged by Trump's recent comments to Time magazine, which named him Person of the Year, that "we are going to work something out" for DREAMers.
"We want to reach out to the incoming administration and urge them if they take any action on DACA try to...................................

Work = implement all existing laws
Something = dreamers, illegals, visa overstays, green card voters, multiple voters, using diseased persons data, fake SS number voters, motor voters....etc
Out = Deported.
Yes. You don’t get to rob the bank and keep the money.
False narrative. Trump was never against immigrants. He is, and should be, against ILLEGAL immigrants. Big difference.
Roger Stone who speaks to Trump regularly says he’s playing these Senators. Trump is going to beat pansy Graham like a drum in the next four years.
“media attempting to drive a narrative again.”
Exactly. Maybe even fake news.
I agree with your basic view. But I have been thinking about the massive task of rounding up and deporting the millions of illegals who are convicted criminals, gang members, welfare and tax cheats, and otherwise especially troublesome. To get rid of just 365,000 of them would require apprehending them, bringing them before an immigration court, transporting them to somewhere outside the US where they can’t come right back — all at a rate of 1,000 per day every day of the year. It would take 4 years at this unrealistic pace just to deport the worst of the illegals. The hard core will not leave willingly, and it will be increasingly harder to keep up the required numbers.
In practical terms, the young ones on a school or work track do less harm, and deporting them generates sob stories for the propagandists. Smarter to focus efforts on the nastier, unsympathetic, criminal element at first.
Trump should strike a bargain with these Senatorial hand-wringers. So long as they give full-scale legislative support and funding for his efforts against criminals, gang members, etc., to secure the borders, and stop the intake of Muslim “refugees”, he will not go after their little dreamers.
I tend to side with your way of thinking.
Cut them off from jobs and benefits and they will leave on their own.
E-verify every job.
No valid SS#, no job.
No benefits without proof of citizenship.
No choice but to leave.
Let them know under the law if we have to deport them, it is a 10 year ban before they can apply for entry the right way, the way EVERY REAL immigrant has done it.
We need to use the correct language.
The media loves to confuse things with incorrect language.
Illegal aliens are NOT immigrants.
Immigrants are people who applied in their home countries to be Americans, paid their fees, waited their turn, learned the language and complied with the laws.
Illegal aliens are people who broke in or overstayed visas.
Still has to pass house and get O’s signature. Any confidence out there RINO Ryan will stop this in the house? Keep you eye on the lame ducks!
young immegrants, we know they’re the best, yum, yum.
SCUM.
DRAIN THE SWAMP.
so what’s the big deal? many 1000’s of people are arrested every day in this country- they go through the courts- and eventually face their due-
illegal immigrants are costing this country between $400 BILLION and $600 BILLION dollars every single year- the cost of rounding them up and deporting them won’t be anywhere near that, and once they are gone, they are no longer a financial burden on this country- Nearly 3/4’s of immigrants are on some form of government welfare/’relief’- many to the tune of nearly $45,000 dollars a year as they soak our government and citizens for every last cent they can get-
This is a huge huge problem that is draining our finances- some organizations even estimate it may be even more than $600 BILLION a year when everything is factored in-
These ‘dreamers’ sure do dream- they dream about crossing the boarder and drinking beer all day as they collect welfare money by having many kids here- and collecting free health care and free college and and and- that’s a hell of a dream- money for nothin- chicks for free-
I guess not.
My line in the sand. Has been for many years. I want them gone. They’ve made my state unlivable. No quarter on this one for me.
the ‘unaccompanied minor’ program was a ploy to flood the country with new democrat voters
they should NOT be allowed citizenship just because they broke into the country without their parents
You’re quite funny. You really think Trump will kick the dreamers out? It will never happen. Scoff if you will, but lets have this discussion 2 years from now. They will stay.
No welfare.
End birthright citizenship. It was never the intent of the 14th Amend.
They will go home.
Assuming for the sake of argument that you DID want to allow illegals to continue to live in the US, why would you pick the ones too stupid to know the meaning of “deferred”?
Yea that’s a good plan, because we all know from the history of sending conservatives pols to DC, that once they start capitulating and being nice to the left, and selling out the voters, the left stops trying to cut their throats politically and backs up off of them.
