President-elect Trump was joined by his pick for secretary of education, Betsy DeVos, at a "Thank You" rally Friday night in her home state of Michigan.

DeVos, a longtime school choice advocate and billionaire GOP donor, was tapped by Trump to head the Education Department late last month after impressing him and Vice President-elect Mike Pence with her understanding of education policy and dedication to improving public education and expanding charter schools in the Great Lake State.

Common Core looks to be sabotage of K12 education.

Hello, GonzoII.

MuzzieCore. Ve vill indoctrinate your children to hate you and invite us into your homes to keel you. That about sums up what I think Common Core’s secondary goal is other than to follow orders without question (brainwashing children to follow the government’s orders; probably) using instructions that make absolutely no sense and take the long way on solving math problems. their primary goal seems to be to screw up children’s minds so they believe all this socialistic PC bull$hit...

Do you know her personally, or are you just full of it? Many of us here in Michigan who do know her, who have held conversation with Betsy would disagree with you.

Her foundation pays for the development of common core lesson plans

Bridges at School is a topical curriculum developed for American middle school classrooms. Contextualizing the Arab World and providing a unique series of both critical thinking and creative lesson plans that shed light on the rich historical, scientific, mathematical, religious, and cultural legacy of the region, this program focuses on the themes of global citizenship and identity through a series of analysis-based lesson plans. Bridges at School highlights poetry and values-based paired texts; fashion and style; visual art; food and spice; drama; music; language; medicine and science; and media

Development funding for Bridges at School is courtesy of Donna Pearson Chapman and The Dick & Betsy DeVos Family Foundation.

I am not sure of the source of your material. The DeVos foundations, all three of them are christian and none support common core. We are inundated with disinformation today, i suggest you double check your source. You are wrong.

You really need to go look at your link yourself, the DeVos’ are listed as “advisory counsel” not financial supporters.

You must be a public school teacher

Curriculum is the sum total of all the courses offered in a school so what are you saying ... leave basket weaving 101 in place but go ahead and take out "common core" ?

“The answer isn’t bigger government. The answer is local control.”

That bears repeating!

“She is cluless (sic).”

Take note! She said, “The answer isn’t bigger government. The answer is local control.” That doesn’t sound like someone who wants to federal government to determine control. It actually sounds like someone who very much has a CLUE!

-—She promised to scrap the education standards, which are currently used in more than 40 states, if confirmed by the Senate.-—

She needs Senate cooperation to do this apparently. The GOP controls both Houses, right? Shouldn’t be a problem, but will it?

There are still a few RINOs wading in the swamp...

DeVos: The answer is local control

It is. The best way for public schools to compete with charter schools and voucher schemes is for local school districts to base their curriculum on what meets the needs of their residents.

PLEASE understand what that means.

The school board is responsible for allowing the government indoctrination to continue or to stop.

WE are the "local control" you speak of and when I was first elected 3 1/2 years ago I was shocked to learn that I was the newest guy there ... the other eight had been there at least 10 years and the president was pushing 20 years !

Since then I've been instrumental in getting another conservative, born again Christian on board, but we are still only two votes overridden by seven.

The devil is in the details and if you REALLY want to attack America's MOST dangerous element, the school ... you have to get involved.

Volunteer mama ain't it ... y'gutt'a get IN there and throw punches.

Or maybe that means if SHE is confirmed by the Senate? That’s probably it.

Ending “Common Core” just cost the support of the Bush family.

Most Americans are really uninformed about school board members and can merely vote for a name or two that they recognize. And most never vote for school boards, who are often chosen in separate elections from others. It’s good that you are trying to shake up an unshakeable institution.
