Trump Shuns Sarah Palin, Picks Cathy McMorris Rodgers For Interior Secretary
Zero Hedge ^

In what is being touted as further diversification of the president-elect administration, Donald Trump is expected to name Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) to lead the Interior Department, according to reports. McMorris Rodgers gets the nod ahead of Sarah Palin and Harold Hamm.
The candidates mentioned for the Interior Secretary were...
- * Sarah Palin, former Alaska governor, 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee
- * Jan Brewer, former Republican Arizona governor
- * Forrest Lucas, founder of oil products company Lucas Oil
- * Harold Hamm, Oklahoma oil and gas mogul, chief executive of Continental Resources Inc
- * Robert Grady, venture capitalist, partner in private equity firm Gryphon Investors
- * Mary Fallin, Republican Oklahoma governor
- * Ray Washburne, chief executive of investment company Charter Holdings
- * Cathy McMorris Rodgers, U.S. representative from Washington state and Republican Conference chair
But as The Hill reports, Trump will tap McMorris-Rodgers, a five-term Republican who represents eastern Washington and is the chair of the House GOP Conference, to lead the department, the New York Times and Wall Street Journal reported Friday.
McMorris Rodgers is a vice chair of Trumps transition team and the highest-ranking woman in GOP leadership. She formally met with Trump on Nov. 20. Her office declined to comment Friday.
If confirmed by the Senate, McMorris Rodgers would lead the 70,000-employee, $12 billion Interior Department, which manages federal lands for both preservation and energy and mineral development, controls offshore drilling and oversees national parks.
She would be Trumps point person on public lands energy development, something Trump said he wants to expand as president.
Trump opposes the Obama administrations moratorium on coal leasing on federal lands and, in a September speech, proposed a top-down review of all anti-coal regulations issued by the Obama administration, an effort that would include the Interior Department.
Trumps transition website said he will encourage the production of [fossil fuels] by opening onshore and offshore leasing on federal lands and waters.
Trump, though, has professed a view of federal land ownership that is relatively moderate compared to some conservatives.
In a speech this week, he said he would follow the legacy of Theodore Roosevelt and conserve and protect our beautiful natural resources for the next generation including protecting lands.
During his presidential campaign, he said he [doesnt] like the idea of transferring federal lands to states because I want to keep the lands great, and you dont know what the state is going to do. I mean, are they going to sell if they get into a little bit of trouble? And I dont think its something that should be sold."
McMorris Rodgers is a booster of hydropower and has pushed legislation to tackle forest fires in the West.
She has voted in favor of expanding fossil fuel development on public lands and in federal areas off-shore. She opposes efforts to change the royalty rates on federal coal mining, something pushed hard by Obamas Interior Department, and voted for a GOP budget that would allow the sale of public lands to mining companies.
In the past, she has introduced legislation to require congressional approval before the president can designate a national monument, and a bill directing the Bureau of Land Management to release public lands it holds that it has deemed not suitable for wilderness status.

I live in McMorris-Rogers district. She will be someone Trump can count on to follow his administration position on relevant issues. No drama, no embarrassments. Just a good dependable soldier. I spent about 1/2 hour researching Rep. McMorris Rodgers online, and came to much the same conclusion. Obviously, you have about a 100x better window on that! So, thanks for the info. from (relatively) "up close."
A "good dependable soldier" may be just what's needed to execute the actions needed to help make the US energy independent, rather than a "lightning rod" like Gov. Palin. McMorris-Rogers also seems to be sensible about management of our resources in general - definitely a big(!) plus for the position.
Meanwhile, maybe if Trump got enough suggestions consisting mainly of a map of FedGov land holdings, and the question, "Does the Gov't REALLY need to keep all of this land?", maybe he'd get the idea to sell some of it to pay down the debt.
Regarding Sarah Palin, since she's going to be a lightning rod no matter what, I think the best role for her IF she wants to be in the Trump administration is some sort of very public position fighting corruption. Sarah doesn't have the legal chops to be head of the FBI, or something like that, so I'm not exactly sure what would work. What I do know is that being very visibly involved in taking out some corrupt high level officials could essentially "rebrand" her. That would also maintain the sort of "high visibility" that a continuing "drain the swamp" effort needs...

Sarah is a good person.....
But there are so many more qualified people......

McMorris-Rogers has a child with Down’s Syndrome, so she may well have a personal “connection” with Sarah Palin...

No one is out of the running until all positions are filled.
It’s still early in the process.
All the #fakenews (can you spell MSN?) orgs, written oral and visual, are pushing caos and panic.
Conservatives in general and Trump in particular are not taking the bait.

Why is Mark Levin whining so much about all these Trump picks? I honestly get annoyed listening to him now. Today I could only handle about 5 minutes of him railing on Trumps latest picks. He is only satisfied with the national defense picks. What a killjoy.

Trumps staff probably just wrote you off as a fanatic if you and your wife both tweeted him an all CAPS histrionic message.
Don’t waste his time.
Palin is and will continued doing just fine without your angry “help”

Shows how little you know. Palin and Trump are friends. they keep in touch. According to K. Conway, Palin helped advise throughout the campaign. She campaigned for him the last week of the campaign.
To: Artcore
She backed him when he was fighting off Cruz. If she had went with Cruz, I don’t think Trump would have won the primaries. People trust Palin’s conservative stamp of approval. Furhtermore, without the Palin movement in 2008 and beyond, I don’t think there would have been a Trump movement.
To: Truthfreesus
HAH!
If Palin had endorsed Cruz it would of done the same thing her endorsement for Trump did. Absolutely nothing.

I liked the word “tap.” Trump’s tapping a lot of women for his cabinet. Not a lot of blacks so expect some heat from the media on that.

I’m done with both of them
Levin worked hard to get Hillary elected by bashing Trump unfairly and relentlessly . ditto for Glen Beck
Palin idolizes Levin and backed him here . Big mistake .I’ll never forget that. Sorry Sarah but this is a breakup!

Let this RINO be Trump's “James Watt” and allow Sarah Palin a chance to clean up the VA and make it great again.
To: bert
Sarah Palin has had her time? Are you kidding me? She is not even as old as Reagan was when he won his first election yet.
You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet!
To: FreedomStar3028
Lest you forget, Palin’s endorsement of Ted Cruz made him a Senator. Her endorsement of Trump made him our next President.
