Rogue Republican Elector Warns Trump: "I Am Not The Only One Who Will Not Vote For You"

Last week a Republican member of the Electoral College, Christopher Suprun, published an op-ed in the NYT explaining why he would not be casting his vote for Donald Trump. Suprun is the same elector who the NY Post reported one month ago that hes on track to vote as assigned for Donald Trump next month, despite reports saying hed consider going rogue and voting for Hillary Clinton. Previously, Politico had quoted Suprun in August saying he found Trump so unpalatable, hed consider going rogue and voting for Clinton. He then told the Post that he always planned to vote for his partys nominee when Electoral College electors gather in their respective state capitals to finalize Trumps presidency on Dec. 19.
He lied, as his NYT op-ed made very clear: "The election of the next president is not yet a done deal, Suprun wrote. Electors of conscience can still do the right thing for the good of the country. Presidential electors have the legal right and a constitutional duty to vote their conscience.
"Trump lacks the foreign policy experience and demeanor needed to be commander in chief", Suprun also wrote, adding that Trumps business dealings might pose unacceptable conflicts of interest, Suprun adds - a problem that could seem him impeached in his first year given his dismissive responses."
Yesterday, Suprun spoke to Jonathan Karl and Rick Klein on the Powerhouse Politics Podcast, and suggested that there are other Republican electors who will follow Suprun in not voting for Trump. "At this point there are people who have reached out to me. Again it wouldnt be my place to name who they are," he said, though he indicated he was talking about Republican electors.
"I am confident in saying, at this point," he continued,"I dont think I will be the only one voting for someone other than Donald Trump who is carrying a Republican elector seat." It was not clear which former candidate would earn Suprun's vote since his choice, Ohio Governor John Kasich, has said he is not interested.
Still, Suprun is confident he will find someone: "As electors come forward, and I have had conversations with other Republican electors in particular, I think we will start discussing names specifically and see who meets the test that we could all get behind," he said.
"The point of this isnt just to go down and raise a little ruckus it is to vote for the person we think would best be able to hold the position."
Of course, tens of millions of Americans are fairly confident that person has already been found, and are confused why Suprun believes he has the right to override the responsibility bestowed upon him by Trump's voters.
Meanwhile, Suprun says he has received both positive and negative reactions. On the positive side are people who say his actions restore their faith in the country. On the other side he has "received several twitter threats directly."
"I have been told that this type of action leads to insurrection, which I think is unfortunate," Suprun said. "There has been some backlash. Unfortunately there are some Trump backers who think violence is the answer."
Suprun had been a Trump supporter but said he "started having very serious doubts two weeks ago when on the Sunday talk shows Mr. Trump started talking about a phantom three million illegal votes, where he was attacking members of the press for exercising their first amendment rights."
"I think he is the only candidate I am aware of who ever asked a foreign country to hack his political opponents e mail account to find out what is in them, which I consider almost an invitation to espionage. We know he has been a demagogue. He has not attempted to unite the country. Even when Time Magazine made him their Person Of The Year they called him 'President of the Divided States of America.' And, finally, most objectively, he seems to have financial conflicts of interest which he wont resolve."
Quoted by ABC, Suprun said he is in favor of an electoral college, but doesnt think it should be "a rubber stamp." As he wrote in his recent New York Times article, he believes his actions fall squarely in the Hamiltonian tradition. He wrote that "the United States was set up as a republic. Alexander Hamilton provided a blueprint for states' votes. Federalist 68 argued that an Electoral College should determine if candidates are qualified, not engaged in demagogy, and independent from foreign influence."
Finally, here is a smug Supron appearing on the Tucker Carlson show defending his views and declaring that we won't find out who will be President until the "election" actually happens on December 19th.
"December 19th is when the election actually happens. I'm actually surprised you didn't know that. But that's when electors actually cast their ballots. And that's when we'll find out who is President."
Meanwhile, many angry voters took to Twitter calling for Supron to be replaced as an elector.
It remains to be seen if his effort fizzles away and is forgotten like Jill Stein's attempt to "recount" the election away from Donald Trump.

(Yawn), pure media BS. Remember all the stories before the Republican convention? How there was supposedly several hundred Trump electors that were so disgusted with him they were going to for a brokered convention and nominate Paul Ryan or John Kasich instead. Then the convention rolled around and...nothing...no uprising, no rules shenanigans, nothing. This is the same deal, the media found this #NeverTrumper idiot that somehow managed to get him on the Texas elector slate and they are milking if for all of it's worth.

This will turn out the same way as the revolt that was suppose to happen at the convention. NOTHING. Again, fake news posting as actual fact.

This news isn’t fake. It’s REAL. Whether it will amount to anything is another matter.

In the end it doesn't really matter either way, Suprun states "December 19th is when the election actually happens. And that's when we'll find out who is President." He is incorrect, the election actually happens on January 6th when Congress meets to review the electoral votes.
"Members of Congress can object to any state's electoral vote count, provided objection is presented in writing and is signed by at least one member of each house of Congress. An objection supported by at least one senator and one representative will be followed by the suspension of the joint session and by separate debates and votes in each House of Congress; after both Houses deliberate on the objection, the joint session is resumed. A state's certificate of vote can be rejected only if both Houses of Congress vote to accept the objection. In that case, the votes from the State in question are simply ignored. The votes of Arkansas and Louisiana were rejected in the presidential election of 1872."
So in layman's terms, Congress can reject any votes by "faithless electors" with a protest by a single member of Congress and a single Senator which triggers a majority vote in the House or Senate to sustain the objection. If the vote passes, the electoral votes in question are tossed.
If at that point no candidate has 270 electoral votes then that removes the electoral college from the equation entirely and kicks the election to a vote in the House where each state delegation votes as a block and Trump will win easily, as Republican have a substantial majority of state delegations.
So under every scenario devised, Trump will still win.

Don’t forget the attempted coup within the GOP to try to force Trump to step down over “P****gate.” On the one hand, Trump not only survived but triumphed. On the other hand, it shows that there was a cabal within the GOP who were willing to try the coup.
Keep in mind who these Electors are. They are GOP insiders. However, now that Trump has won, there is no way they are going to take a shot at the king if they don’t know they are going to dethrone him. In the end, any of the traitors who are thinking of going rogue will back down and cast their votes as they should. They won’t risk Trump’s revenge if they don’t succeed. Their “principles” are only to themselves.

Bet 10 / 1 he is gay.
Our local gay R county chair, (in a very important Florida 1-4 county) would do nothing in the General Election because, in reality, he didn’t like Trump and Pense on gay issues.
Because of that we lost at least 4000 statewide votes that should have gone for Trump. We also lost, downballot, a great congressman/congressional seat to the Dems and state officers too.
In our county that was moderately R 8 years ago, a decent Republican State’s Attorney also lost to a rabid lib Amish Dem, who was Soros funded, and whose husband has an extensive record of felony drug selling convictions.
But.... of course.... “he turnin his life around....”
All because our Chair didn’t “like” Trump.

Not advocating violence, of course, but I can get in at least one 600 meter well aimed shot from the Prone, Sitting or Kneeling Positions while in a commercial break during “Hannity.”
