Officials are conducting an urgent review of the billions of dollars that New York City receives each year from the federal government to identify the streams of money that may be most at risk once President-elect Donald J. Trump takes office.
Mr. Trump, a Republican, has threatened to punish cities that defy his efforts to deport undocumented immigrants, and there is also concern that the Republican-controlled Congress may seek to slash longstanding aid programs.
Theres urgency because the threat seems greater than its been, said Tony Shorris, the first deputy mayor, referring to the effort to identify which programs may be most at risk. Theres also uncertainty because the lack of clarity is much greater than its been.

And it is the concern of those who voted for Trump that the Republicans won't slash those programs
Let the city’s do whatever they want. Just tell the states to take care of it or Medicaid and SNAP funds will be cut.
Money schmoney. What if Trump moves in and deports the illegals as per fedgov’s right? That’ll frost their flakes...

California sends more money to the Feds than ever flows from the feds back to California. same for New York. If they want to shelter Illegals and pay for them out of their own pocket, what’s it to you?
I believe in the rule of law. There is a law about not entering the country illegally. If you help someone do it, you are violating the law. Calif doesn’t have the option to support illegals; the law is federal. Those who do should go to jail.
Calif pays 18 billion a year to provide services to illegals. They are over 150 billion in debt, long term. Bonds, pensions etc.
I live in Cal and pay taxes.
THAT’S WHAT IT IS TO ME?
There is no rule of law in the US, and hasn’t been since 1861.
I am a member of a small cult who still believes.
NY should be embarrassed that they didn’t support not just a winning favorite son, but one who had created an enormous number of jobs and enormous amount of wealth within their state.
Is that a serious question?
I just get tired of people in States that get a net benefit from the Federal Government spazzing out about what the citizens in States that are net donors waste their money on.
Would I like a system where nobody gets a benefit from the Federal Government and the Federal Government is strictly focused on interstate and international issues? YES
I believe that States should be sovereign and the citizens of those States should be free to vote on the type of idiotic boondoggles they want. If a citizen doesn’t like what his fellow citizens do, he can try to change their minds, live with it, or move. But no citizen of another State should be saying bugger all abouit it, because it shouldn’t have any effect on the other State.
