Ronald Gasser did not stand over Joe McKnight when he shot him, JPSO, coroner say

Ballistic evidence and autopsy results show Ronald Gasser, the man authorities say admitted to fatally shooting Joe McKnight, did not fire on the former NFL player while standing over him, Jefferson Parish authorities said.

"The wounds are not consistent with being shot from above while on the ground," Jefferson Parish Coroner Dr. Gerry Cvitanovich said, as he discussed McKnight's autopsy during a press conference Friday (Dec. 2).

The information contradicts a witness account given at the scene of McKnight's death Thursday at a Terrytown intersection. The witness had said she saw Gasser shoot McKnight twice, then stand on top of McKnight and fire once more.

"Mr. Gasser was in his vehicle when he fired three shots," Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand said at the same press conference. "That witness account, and we talked to that witness, is factually incorrect. It did not happen."

Cvitanovich said one of the three bullets that struck McKnight, 28, entered his chest and traveled through his liver and kidney before exiting out his right lower back. Another bullet struck McKnight in his right shoulder and punctured his lung. The third bullet hit McKnight in his left hand, the coroner said.

Normand said three shell casings were found inside Gasser's vehicle. Gasser, 54, was sitting in the driver's seat of his blue Infiniti coupe when he fired three times at McKnight. The former NFL player was out of his Audi Q7 and "positioned at the passenger window of the Infiniti," authorities said.

Normand said the incident potentially began as road rage that started on the Crescent City Connection.

"Preliminarily it may have been simply cutting one off in front of one, recklessly, while driving on the bridge," Normand said. He declined to comment on whether Gasser gave any statements to authorities.

The two men continued onto

Was the window up or down with Joe McKnight outside the vehicle’s passenger door? If the window was down, and vigorous conversation ensued without any attempt to enter the vehicle, that’s one thing. Powder burn pattern will give an indication of how far McKnight was from the muzzle of the weapon. Ballistic trajectory will give attitude of the body relative to the weapon.

If the window were shattered by McKnight to gain entry to the vehicle, that is evidence of heightened aggression, possibly rage. If shots were fired through a raised window hitting McKnight, that goes against the driver. It’s all part of the physical evidence supporting or contradicting statements by the shooter and witnesses.

I frickin’ knew it. The initial reports were all favoring “the witnesses” (in other words, the ballplayer’s buddies that were with him). We were told that Gasser pulled the guy out of his car (like this 54 year old guy who looks like he weighs about 160 soaking wet) is going to pull a former football player out of his car. Then we were told that McKnight was merely standing when he was shot. Then we were told that Gasser shot him additional times after he was down and said, “I told you not to f*** with me!” So far, the witness reports are all full of crap.

And he was released without being charged, that’s how much of a psycho he is.

The witnesses are most likely McKnight’s buddies riding with him. Door #2 is people from the neighborhood seeing the “need” to protect a brother. Whoever it is, they LIED. Charge them with False Official Statement.

.
The “witness” should be under arrest for deliberately making a false statement.

Apparently the window was down. A driver belted into his seat is very vulnerable to someone next to the vehicle. Getting out of one's car and approaching the other is the only indication of aggression I need.

It is not an indicator of a desire to calmly discuss things.

Note to other individuals who might try to intimidate and/or assault white folks when you're angry. We're not taking it any more. Stop and think before you let anger short circuit your thinking and subsequently, your life.

More than likely McKnight was at Glasser’s car threatening to kick his ass and was reaching in to hit him or making an attempt to get Glasser’s door open when he was shot. That will probably be the truth that comes out.
