Hispanics, who for more than a decade insisted they were the key to American politics, are now grappling with a life on the outside stunned that a Republican managed to capture the White House without winning at least a third of their support.
Immigrant rights advocates insist that Latinos did turn out in record numbers, and say they voted overwhelmingly for Hillary Clinton, doubting major media exit polls that showed President-elect Donald Trump captured some 29 percent nationally.
But that leaves another conundrum: If Republicans can win without Hispanic support, that could sap the negotiating power Latinos have claimed on issues such as immigration.

Don’t expect to have much influence by waving mexican flags. If you are for America then Trump will be for you
Get in line.
You are no better than the rest of us.
In 2006 I was putting an addition on my house. One day “Paco” didn’t show to work. I asked the general contractor where he was. He said Paco was taking the day off for “a day without a mexican” day. Wrong answer Mr. GC. I told him to replace Paco and that I was fine for a day, month a
year without him.
Bad news for the “we need to give amnesty for them to like us” wing of the GOP
Hat tip to dennisw for pointing out that latinos think Americans are dumb b/c we are laid back and dont indulge in emotional behavior like they do south of the border.
All of the laino plans centered on their "Americans are dumb" sentiments.
But many Americans doubted latinos could navigate the ins and outs of our sophisticated political system.
Proves we were right, after all.
Of course it will wane, because he will kick many of you out.
People of Hispanic heritage who are citizens, or aliens who are here legally, will probably see their level of influence increase vs. the current administration.
Get in line?
Better yet.......get out of my country.
Exactly: If you are more of a “Hispanic” than an “American”, then GTFO!
We do not need them. They need us. Everyone knows that.
They needs us is right.....like the mountain of tax benefits that they collect .....using several identities.
I’m getting pretty damned sick of these TRULY racist flights of fancy by the liberal press!
First of all, there’s no such thing as an “Hispanic”. Cubans ain’t Mexicans, which aren’t Puerto Ricans, which aren’t Spanish and so on. They are Latinos, for God’s sake! Furthermore, they are not, as the liberal press would have us believe and would like to think, a monolithic voting bloc with the same view on every policy issue. We need to start pointing out the inherently racist nature of lumping people of similar color or ethnicity together and drawing generalizations about them.
There are plenty of socially and fiscally conservative Latinos of every nationality, especially those who immigrated legally and those whose families have lived in what is now the United States since BEFORE it became the United States. I had a buddy in the Army, Rodolfo “Rudy” Gonzales, who was from Central Texas. Some dumbass once asked him, “How long has your family been in the United States?” Rudy responded, “Oh, about 400 years...”
To the extent they are unhyphenated-Americans, they are covered.
Hispanic means Spanish. Mestizo is probably the word they are looking for.
LOL. I love practical solutions to made-up problems (made up by the “irreplaceable” Paco).
Hispanics who agree with Trump have plenty of influence.
Actually it should leave the Dems to wonder if perhaps they shouldn’t stop treating Hispanics as pets.
“The road to winning runs through the latino community”.......latino agit-prop that’s a favorite of Luis Gutierrez, La Raza, and all those types looking to cash-in.
Gutierrez stroked latinos b/c they touted him for president (gag).
LaRaza has their hands in the till....grabbing tax dollars every chance they get..
I love that they’re screwed either way they try to argue this. Either they came out for Trump, and illegal immigration really doesn’t matter to “Hispanics” very much, or they didn’t come out, and the GOP can win without them. Sweet.
