Mexican official: Carrier will ‘suffer’ by keeping jobs in US
The Hill ^ | November 30, 2016 | By Mark Hensch

Posted on 12/01/2016 12:34:01 AM PST by Brad from Tennessee

A Mexican lawmaker says Carrier’s deal with President-elect Donald Trump keeping about 1,000 manufacturing jobs in the U.S. will only hurt the air conditioning giant.

“The implications are very serious, not only for Nuevo Leon, but for Carrier,” Sen. Marcella Guerra said Wednesday of Carrier’s decision and its impact on her state, according to The Associated Press.

“The one who is going to suffer from this is the company…because their products are going to be more expensive. I understand the fight, because it is same fight all we politicians carry out.”

Trump’s team and Carrier announced late Tuesday they had reached an agreement to halt nearly 1,000 jobs in Indiana from leaving for Mexico. Carrier previously announced in March it would shutter a plant in Indianapolis, effectively eliminating 1,400 U.S. jobs. . .

Drones can be jammed. Big and small drones can be shot down. Small drones can be netted. They also have limited range.

The products are more expensive, like autos, because of radical EPA regulations put in place by Obama.

Yes companies are in business to make money but a good company does not do things to destroy t’s own customer base like putting them out of work so that they cannot even buy the companies product.

My dad taught me years ago, 2 gas stations side by side selling same gas, one charges 5o cents a gallon they other charges 75 cents a gallon. sure the one selling at 75 cents will make more per sale, but likely not have as many sales as the lesser priced station and in the end.
Many businesses have become greedy thinking they need bigger and bigger profits.

I like what you wrote but your analogy about the toaster is completely wrong.

Labor is, on average, 8% of the retail cost if a product if it is made in the USA. A Chinese built product reduces labor to 1% with some increased trans costs, a net 6% savings. So your $10.00 Chinese built toaster would $10.80 made in the USA no where near $40.00.

Yes believe it: "The Captains of Industry" would sell out the US worker for 7 cents on the dollar. Vacation homes in Europe and the South Pacific are expensive.

Firebird I’m good.

1994 Z28 must have been foreign then.

Bought it four years old and saved a bundle. Feel even better not getting it new since it was made overseas.

Loved that care much more than nissan 350z.

I’m 48. Getting car this spring.

Trying to decide what i’m too old for now!!

NAFTA brought the American Consumer great affordable quality products,

I don't believe that for a second. What we did was increase profit margins for the globalist corporations while the consumer sees maybe 2% reduction in price if any at all. Frankly labor costs, even if a durable good is built in the USA, is pennies on the dollar for the lion share of consumer goods.

Quality of product depends on quality of worker. Being willing to work long hours for $3/ hr does not mean the person has a clue about making a quality product. I buy “ Made in USA” whenever possible.

So, Carrier doesn’t have a viable business model. Got it. Let them go out of business.

I had a Daikin installed a few months ago but in light of this, a Carrier wouldn’t have been bad.

At some point the idea of globalism became "Screw the American people if they don't like us making more money." While I support capitalism, it is not practiced widely outside of this country.

100%. Business has been run by prodigal sons for 30 years, running through the legacy left by better people. That is why dogmatic free tradism is a dead end; it must be restrained by a moral code or world view that puts homeland before maximum profit. Eventually, what is best for the homeland is what's best for your family. But who does things that undermine their own family? Those that have no family or hate their family; politically, they are democrats. Socially, they are relativists. Economically, they are cronies, statists, insiders, elitist socialists. Grifters.

Yes, we put a mini split system in our master bedroom, so that we could leave the rest of the house at 75 and cool the master BR to 72.

I bet those Carrier mini split units are not made in the US, however.

I remember when Swingline went South of the border. It used to produce top notch steel-framed staplers. Now they produce aluminum-framed POS’s. Don’t know if the price has changed.

China had been deindustrializing the USA.China was sending us back to the Stone Age

My impression is that this all started under Clinton. Follow the money. The Clintons have absolutely ravaged this country, in so many different ways.

All the Clintons, including Web Hubbell's daughter, should be tried and convicted for crimes against the American people, and then publicly beheaded. Their corpses would be burnt and their remains launched by rocket into the sun.
